any1 know of free software on designing a garden
I dont know of any free design software, but I would call up a few different landscaping guys out of your phonebook and ask if they give free estimates (most will give free estimates unless you call the big ones that have their own nurseries). When they come out, ask them to do a rough sketch (not graphed - they will charge for a graphed design) and an estimate - this way they will think they are estimating a job (you dont have to tell them otherwise). Let them know you will get back to them and that you have to compare estimates. You dont have to call any of them back, but just ask them before they leave if you can keep the sketch or copy it down real quick. They'll be none the wiser and you'll have a few designs to pick from.

I'm eager to design a water garden in my backyard and prospecting space for it.
Water gardens can be built to contain waterfalls, ponds and fountains, all of which can be enhanced by colored rock combinations, lighting, plants, and fish. The most important features of water garden design are the spot for your garden and its size with respect to your property.
Since plants and fish both need sunlight, a place in direct light away from trees and bushes works best.
Aquatic plants can greatly enhance the look of your water garden. These can be free floating, submerged, or marginal... Some plants are good for their scent, some provide more oxygen than others, and some are simply beautiful to have in the garden ecosystem.
My first backyard (long rectangular shape with trees in corners) and I really want to design a great flower garden layout.
Anyone know of any websites with great garden layouts? I want neat ideas.
Thanks!
Well a pathway down the middle is a great idea. Putting some retaining walls along the side and planting them with perennials can make for a beautiful landscape with less maintenance. A Trellis or a seating area in the middle can be a great way to make use of this narrow area and can be used for entertainment.
I have helped people with similar shaped areas and I designed in a fire pit in the middle. Or if you have an unused area possible put a grilling area or a fire pit. So much can be done with little spaces. My website has some real good ideas for design and maintenance.

Looking to have a nice garden with lot of colourful flowers & design for front & back yard.
You can ask at Alden Lane Nursery for references.
You can try Kristin's Garden: Kristin Yanker-Hansen (out of Danville).
The host was a young man who designed "extreme" backyard makeovers. I watched it 6 or 7 years ago, maybe, and I'm sure it is no longer on. It was on around the same time as Ground Force.
The only episode I can remember had a room in the backyard that moved back and forth on tracks. It may have moved back to reveal a hot tub (or something similar), but I can't remember. The room moving on tracks is the one thing that sticks out in my mind... I had never seen it before and I haven't seen it since.
I can't think of the name of the show... or the host... and it is really irritating me. Please help! lol
I believe the show was a spin off from the show Homefront called Homefront in the Garden.

Keeping Chickens In Your Backyard
If you like the thought of waking up to a breakfast of freshly laid, free range eggs at a fraction of the cost and inconvenience of traveling to the nearest store to buy some, then building a backyard chicken coop and hosting your own egg laying team could be just the thing for you. Join the increasing number of families across the country who are doing just that.
Eggs
Consider this: everything a chicken eats goes into producing an egg, right? When you purchase a carton of eggs from the supermarket, do know what went into the making of those eggs? If your chickens are fed nothing but good quality chicken food and your own table scraps, you will have tasty, nutritious eggs for your plate. Also, by letting your chickens run free during the day, (in some urban areas this may not be appropriate) you will find they will mostly be able to feed themselves.
Another bonus of a backyard chicken coop is if you are a gardener. Think about it! There will be a weekly allotment of fresh,...
