I have some of friend and relatives asking for design their home garden. Honestly said since I do learn the subject and practices it, kind of common sense when you use to hang with the thing again and again. May I know what is the problem your're facing when you're try to do you own landscape/garden design :)
Scale is the biggest problem. Most people plant things like they will never get bigger. Consequently they plant them too close to the house or too close to other plants or they plant too many plants for a given area. If a person can imagine what the plants will look like in 10 years, that's the best way to design, unless you have been trained.

I am starting a company to help people design and refresh their gardens and landscapes. My services will include planning out their garden, helping them select plants at the nursery, and then helping them keep their yard green and healthy. I'm thinking of a name with
"-- Scenes" or "-- Scapes" in it, but I'm open to any ideas. I am near the coast and specialize in plants that do well there. I love the name Gardenscapes but it is already taken. Thanks much!
Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. I have had a business for over eight years. When you create the name of your business, think of your own personality and how it can reflect on your clients. You live near the coast and are in a sub - tropical or tropical setting. Coastal Gardening may be a thought as well of Garden Scences By The Sea, Tropical Paradise Through Gardening, Gardening With Tropical Plants, Creating Coastal Gardens, or Coastal Gardenscapes.
These are just a few that come to mind. Take some words that reflect your area and spend some time playing with the different words. Put some good thought about what your clients would like. This is what I did with my off line business as well as my on line business. I will link you to the tropics section of my website. Browse through as you may find something that may help you. Good luck to you and if I can be of any other help, let me know! Have a great day!

I've always enjoyed working outside with the earth and plants. I thought about becoming a Landscaper for awhile but now I'm into computers. Just tonight I saw at this College's website that I am thinking about going to, they have a major for Garden Design. Does that help with becoming a landscaper for a business like that?
Why not major in Horticulture with a minor in landscape design or architecture. That way you get the best of both worlds. You will learn about growing, living, plants and turf as well as learning how to apply this knowledge into designing it yourself before the installation. Of course you will need to have courses in botany as well as soil management or sciences and a course in entomology wouldn't hurt either. If you can graduate with at least a Bachelors you will have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the landscape field. In the meantime, during your summertime break, you can find seasonal work with a local landscape company. This will be a way for you to get your hands dirty and learn the trade first hand. A couple of seasons working with a good contractor, along with a degree, will get you well on your way to owning your own landscape company. Good luck!

All of this newfound fervor has evidenced itself in spaces both compact and colossal, with people planting, growing, and harvesting wherever there’s space. I’m part of that gardening gaggle myself. Even though I now live on a good bit of acreage, this hasn’t always been the case. Once, back when I was living in Washington, D.C. in a third-floor walk-up above an Ethiopian restaurant (and sports bar-that place was bumpin’ on the weekends!), I grew container veggies underneath a skylight (the result of which was met with questionable success; things were going good until I went away for a week and the roomies forgot to water things…). My point is, if you have access to sunlight, you can grow food, even if it’s just a few herbs or a mix of lettuces.

For those living in urban areas, or with limited yardage or a landlord that would prefer you not transform the soil into gorgeous raised beds, consider vegetable container gardening. It’s pretty remarkable what can be grown in even just a few pots. If you’re a bit behind the eight ball and haven’t begun any vegetable starts from seed (your best means of obtaining healthy, vital vegetable plants on the cheap), a good number of fall vegetable starts can now be purchased from local nurseries. Considering the damage incurred by late tomato blight ( theorized to have been spread by , among other things, tomato starts sold from big-box retailers), I’d stick with locally-sourced vegetable starts. Even major metropolitan areas will have small nurseries or plant shops. In D.C., I schleped my starts and soil home from a garden shop 3 streets over.
...» Energy Efficient Windows Effect On Your Landscaping @ Green ...

Energy Efficient windows may be a great savings inside the home, but their effect on your landscaping can cause you just the opposite situation, as magnified rays are reflected from your windows directly onto vulnerable leaf tissue.
For several years I have observed the damage in turf grass and garden plants caused by the radiant heating that comes off of new energy efficient windows. In areas exposed to full summer sun for more than 8 hours a day, I have measured temperatures up to and exceeding 160 degrees beamed directly onto plant material. Plants that normally seem healthy fall through spring will begin to show leaf scorch, and die back to the ground. Areas around your house that were lush and green prior to your window installation now look dry and damaged through the hottest summer weather.
How To Discover If Damage Is Due To Energy Efficient Windows:
