Can anyone recommend a company in Glasgow who do mono blocking and/or garden design?

I'm looking for a company near Glasgow to do our driveway and I was going to go with mono block. What should I be asking these companies so I don't get ripped off? Also we want to landscape our back garden which has a steep downwards slope. We thought decking straight out over it was the best solution. Any other ideas? We would need to put up an 8ft fence if we go for decking. Do you need planning permission for that? There is only woodland behind us. Can anyone out there recommend a company for either? Many thanks.
Glasgow, Scotland!

I am looking for a design website/tool to design a garden and landscape before I actaully plant them? Ideas?

I am looking for a way to help see my landscaping and gardening come together before I start planting and landscaping. Any ideas of websites or tools that let you put in a design of your house and fencing and start from there?

There are many, many pieces of design software on the market today. From professional versoins costing thousands of dollars to free versions. So I think the best thing to do is give you a couple of links and chech out the free software from google.

How can I stop my Jack Russell (7 months) from jumping the fence & heading straight for the fields ???

I have just spent a fortune putting fencing around the garden to stop the dog getting out - he is only young but has very long legs and has just discovered he can now jump it (there is a 12ft drop the other side which doesn't deter him !!!)

I have tried tying him up on a moveable line but would love him to be able to run around the garden without re-designing the fence again !!!
The fence is 4ft high
I have tried him on a chain, but hate leaving him tied up
Now he knows where the sheep are - he heads straight for the fence every time I open the door !

Hot wire the top and bottom of the fence. This is relatively inexpensive.

Best way to edit/design digital garden pictures on a laptop??

I am a landscape gardener, and I am looking for some way to take pictures of a clients garden, upload them to my laptop then sit with the client and re-design the pictures with input from the client. Possibly a graphics tablet? photoshop? touch sensitive screen ? so I can draw straight onto the digital images. It would be good if there was a package available that provided different options of pre made objects such as fencing, block paving, turf, decking, shrubs which could be placed onto the photograph to show what the finished garden would look like. I have seen a kitchen designer use something similar where he took a picture of the clients kitchen, then showed her what it would look like with the new kitchen fitted.
Any ideas
Thanks

There are Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs that are designed to do exactly what you want and I am sure that using a graphics tablet would the the easiest and most accurate way to use it if you are not well versed in using the touch pad on your notebook.

Here are a few links to such programs:

This should get you started ...

Photoshop while a powerful program is designed for shooters (photographers), pre-press tech's and post production wizards.

Planning and good design feed an urban family

“The woman over the back — she’s from an Italian family — is the only other person around here with a vegetable garden. There’s all this land in backyards going to waste, just growing lawn. The only useful trees in gardens, directly useful to people that is, is the unused lemon tree next door, an unharvested Magenta Lillypilly ( ) a couple houses down and my mandarin tree.

“One of the reasons for redesigning the garden was to make suburban living more sustainable in a food and in an environmental sense, so we do not have to buy food that is imported great distances and so we can make effective use of our kitchen and garden wastes to make compost”.

First, the design

When Fiona set out to design the food garden she quickly discovered the site’s limiting factors. These were a nutrient-poor, sandy soil, a large Jacaranda tree at the northern end of the garden and a neighbour’s tall oleanders that cast long shadows over the garden, making up to two-thirds of the site unusable in winter.

Improve Your Home#39;s Value With A Fence

There are a number of reasons you may want to build a fence .  Fences are a good way to keep children and animals securely in your yard.  They help keep people out and provide boundaries.  Fences add value to your home and can be a fund and easy project to build, as long as you plan before you begin.

Why do you want to build a fence? That’s the question you have to answer before you choose the type of fence to build.  The fence you choose should be based on the reason you want to build it.  For example, if you want to keep people or animals in or out, you need a tall, sturdy fence.

If you want to create a visual boundary, you don’t need such a sturdy fence.  It need not be solid.  A boundary fence can be more decorative.

The following fences are some that you may want to consider when you have made the decision to build a fence.

Picket fences are good boarder fences.  They have spaces between the slats, are usually about waist height, and come in a variety of styles.
