Try a landscape architect instead of a software program
(Free things are worth what you pay for them.)
Flower beds can exist in the yard or even in a container, but the proper drainage and high-quality composted soil is important for the best ...
Hello,
I am planning to build a bamboo/cane-shade in my roof garden (or rather pay someone to to it :) I am looking for ideas... I'd like the shade to cover only part of the roof area to provide shade in summer (summers in Malta can be very hot!). The shade has to stand strong wind, sun and rain and be aesthetically pleasing. Any design ideas?
Many thanks,
Inga
Hi, see if you can get someone to build you a dome out of bamboo, it doesn't need to be completely solid to give you the shade that you need and would look really natural on your roof garden.
I HAVE 5 MONTH OLD TWINS (BOY & GIRL) AND WANT TO PLAN A NICE GARDEN FOR THEM TO LEARN AND PLAY IN. ANY SUGGESTIONS AND SAFE PLANTS YOU CAN OFFER? I'VE DONE THIS BEFORE. ALL NEW TO ME.
Plants that are interesting to the senses - touch, smell, color.
Try scented geraniums, mint, zinnias, lambs ears (incredibly soft - kids love to touch the leaves), and maybe some easy ones that was downright edible, like carrots. All of these are also very easy to grow, and are not bothered by pests.
Go to a local nursery, and go touch and smell the herbs - see which ones they like.
I'm looking for links to good photographs, or even video links. I'm NOT interested in flower, or the extremely fancy herb gardens.
I'm interested in really practicle gardens that produce fruits, vegtables, berries, and possibly small orchards.
Living and working on my own farm leaves me little to no time to tour the gardens of other people. I'm always looking for good ideas I can incorperate into my own gardens and orchard.
So links with pictures, good drawings, or videos would be very much appreciated!
Just go to the site listed below, they have really great set ups...
I also like the idea of orchards kind of surrounding the garden, it sounds great to me....
My mom just made a bunch of raised beds, and we are going to have a sort of 'island' of berries in on, then in the ones around it will mostly be used for vegtables (we go through more veggies then berries, but whatever is the perfect ratio for you if great!)

Design Trends: Japanese Zen Garden Design
Lately, homeowners have decided to do something about their empty, patchy backyard and make it over – Japanese style. What exactly makes up a Zen-inspired Japanese garden? It’s not just putting a Buddha statue next to a stalk of bamboo – it takes planning, consideration, and lots of time to properly pull off a functional, tranquil Zen garden.
Japanese Zen gardens date all the way back to the 13 century. They are known there as rock gardens, where the infamous soothing sand raking takes place. Along with the sand, traditional Japanese rock gardens also include:
- Rocks of different sizes
- Running water
- Different plants & trees
- Seating areas
If you want to include all of these elements into your garden, there is no specific pattern you need to follow. All Zen gardens have a different layout and look because they are meant to represent the soul of the person who put it together.
