What is the difference between a Landscape Architect and a Garden Designer?

My boyfriend wants to start his own landscaping business like his father did but he doesn't know which is better... What type of schooling does each require and licenses? Thanks!

A landscape architect has 5 years of college in Landscape Architecture and has passed a rigorous several day exam to get a license. Anyone can call themselves a a garden designer. If your boyfriend wants to install plant material, he will probably need a landscape contractors license or horticulture license, both administered by the state and so easy to pass, a second grader could do it.
Landscape Architects can draw and sell plans. No one else can. Landscape Architects are not only designers, but also engineers.

What is a garden tub? Considering buying a home with a "designer garden tub" Dimensions are 36''x72''

Is this a large or small tub?

"Garden tub" is a builder/designer term for a bathtub, typically fiberglass or acrylic, with the long sides slightly bowed out, instead of being mostly perpendicular to the short sides.

This provides a more spacious tub area in the same, or close to it, area a traditional tub would fit, thus it's great for retrofitting a bathroom.

It also typically means there's a step or two on the open side of the tub.

Whirlpool jets or other high-end features are NOT considered mandatory for a garden tub... but can often be had for a premium.

However, because the term is not an indistry term but a builder/designer term, almost anyone can use the term w/out specification. IOW, get a pic of the alleged garden tub before deciding if that's the home for you. ;)

Hope this helps,

How much can a garden designer earn?

Not much. Take it from me, or well, that's what I do...

If you wanna do this sort of thing to make money start off slow and small. Do it as a hobbie first just breaking even while still keeping your day job. That's how I got started then I quit my day job when I had enough accounts to keep me going.

You're not gonna please everyone too so remember that. Nothing's easy, not even designing gardens.

But how much you can make depends on how good of a business person you are, hard work is the easy part since you'll be liking what you're doing.

But if you wanna do this to make money, well, I'm not the one to tell you how, I haven't figured it out myself yet, I'm only making enough to get by.

'Aurea,' (seen in the first photo) whose color is picked up in the golden hakone grass to the right and the flowers in the tiny pot next to the frog. Another bird sculpture graces the bench, and the pots next it are filled with plants that Lucy has ordered by mail.  "I collect young trees," she says, "root prune them every year or two, and transplant them to bigger pots."  On the bench is , a weeping blue atlas cedar and others) to block the view of the driveway and the house next door. Lucy also writes a regular column for the newsletter of the Somerville Garden Club , which I have to admit is one of the most professional garden club publications I've ever seen.  It's packed with information about plants, gardening techniques, tours and other goings-on.  And they'll mail it to you every month with a subscription to the club -- well worth it for only $25 a year.  Click on the above link to join.

Looks like a pleasing, relaxing garden with good use of planting to "hide the boundaries" and make it feel larger than it is. Nice photos too.

Futuristic London Garden Foldable Electric Bicycle | design(dot)fr

The bicycle is designed to generate energy when riding and this energy can be used as currency to pay for your bus rides. The bike electronically folds into the bus seat storage mode for space and weight efficiency and to fit on the bike stand. Bike stands can be found at the bus stops where the bikes will be stored securely in order to collect energy from the sun and wind. Moreover, it contributes energy to the bus system that was generated during riding and stored in inner batteries. Finally, the energy will be accumulated from all the bus stops into the London Garden network system, which is the Universal Electricity Network of this concept.
