designing a garden on a computer?

I am interested to take up landscaping/garden designing as a hobby. Is there any software that I could use to help, or is there any web to visit to get some idea on how to start designing gardens?

Not too many mostly instructional because a complex 3d environment is need to show layering and different styles are endless.

Tip* Check out second life because its created by users and developers and have all sort of things there (I am not a fan, nor do I have the proper video card). Its your best bet. They probably have a landscape land you can check out.

What is a good name for a garden design company?

I am starting a company to help people design and refresh their gardens and landscapes.  My services will include planning out their garden, helping them select plants at the nursery, and then helping them keep their yard green and healthy.  I'm thinking of a name with
"-- Scenes" or "-- Scapes" in it, but I'm open to any ideas.  I am near the coast and specialize in plants that do well there. I love the name Gardenscapes but it is already taken.  Thanks much!

Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. I have had a business for over eight years. When you create the name of your business, think of your own personality and how it can reflect on your clients. You live near the coast and are in a sub - tropical or tropical setting. Coastal Gardening may be a thought as well of Garden Scences By The Sea, Tropical Paradise Through Gardening, Gardening With Tropical Plants, Creating Coastal Gardens, or Coastal Gardenscapes.

These are just a few that come to mind. Take some words that reflect your area and spend some time playing with the different words. Put some good thought about what your clients would like. This is what I did with my off line business as well as my on line business. I will link you to the tropics section of my website. Browse through as you may find something that may help you. Good luck to you and if I can be of any other help, let me know! Have a great day!

Designing Your Garden Like A Blockbuster Movie - Tips #39;n#39; Ideas

If you're a movie fanatic then the thought of designing your garden with the same principles isn't going to come as a real surprise. You understand the lingo, the framework of a good movie and the individual components so using them to put your garden together is going to be a cinch.

The first thing you notice about a movie is that there are only a few stars in each - unless, of course, it's one that seems to have EVERY star making a cameo. The rest of the actors play supporting roles or, if it hasn't been computer generated, they're extras playing bit parts.

It's the same with your garden: there should only be one or two stars, upheld by a few supporting others with mass planting extras to give context. Shouldn't it?

I remember one garden that Monty Don visited in his recent sojourn around the world. The owner, a landscape designer, had a philosophy of viewing nature and then recreating it within his garden designs. This meant that there were only ever 2-3 different trees, 3-4 different perennials and one or two groundcovers for each landscape. These limited choices were then mass planted to great effect and appeared to be naturally inset.

The Inside Out And The Outside In « Garden Designing amp; Homestyle ...

Most of us enjoy an outdoor barbecue but our evenings tend to get cool quite early, so investing in a free-standing gas patio heaters might be worthwhile for true garden party aficionados. Instead of a barbecue, how about a decorative cast iron or fired terracotta Chiminea oven, which can double as a barbecue as well as a source of outdoor heating? Remember those holidays abroad when you spent long sultry evenings perhaps outside in the hotel’s gardens or at an outside restaurant, nursing a drink or three and pecking at nibbles? Remember how you remarked that “if only we could do this at home”? Well, with a well thought out garden design together with some consideration of our climate, we can make the most of our summer gardens without having to go inside early, grab a jumper, put the kettle on and call it an evening… and early evening.
