I am trying to get rid of the grass in my backyard and make a garden. Can I just put down landscape paper?
Greenhills

I want to cover it all with mulch I but I wasn't sure if I could put the whole works over my existing grass to kill it. i'd love to know an EASY way, my grass allergies are killing me!!

yea, you can. I did that for my children's play area. First you will need to mow it really low then put down the weed barrier and follow up by mulching heavily on top. Occasionally you will find some grass trying to creep in but all you will need to do is pluck it out. Good Luck.

Where can I find free landscape and garden plans for front and backyards?
Swallowtail # 3

What I am asking for is an actualy landscape layout or design that describes which plants go where, ect.

Check around with friends and neighbors. Most perennials need to be divided fairly regularly, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to give you divisions of theirs. Same for ornamental grasses. Maybe you can collect some seeds from their gardens too.

Any tips for a beginner's vegetable garden?
Pink Azalea April 2011

I live in Reno, Nv (Northern Nevada). I have a landscaped backyard with a flower garden, but I want to make a small vegetable garden that will I will plan and take care of by myself.

I am planning to start it just outside the fence to my backyard. I will be buying live plants instead of seeds. It will not be attached to the drip system that my other plants use (where's the fun in that?)

I plan to research the matter online and check with the nursery for information. I just wanted to also get advice from hobby vegetable gardeners themselves.

Thank you for your time:)

Leave plenty of room between your rows or plants. Your garden may look thin at first but the pay-off will be great. Fertelize every two weeks, water every two or three days, and good luck . Oh ya,dont forget to weed!!

can someone pls help me on my garden?
Not So Yellow Swallowtail

well, i plan to put a garden, landscape or deck, anythig that would make our backyard a nice place to pass time, we have a small lot, 21 x 21 meters. i'd give 100 sq. meters of it for the garden or deck, or anything great to be put on it and its perimeter, i dont like walls and just putting bushes around our lot. please help me, thanks. hope i could see some pictures and ideas and some plans would surely boost my imagination. thank you (o;

fragrant herbs (and flowers) such as lavender and rosemary (evergreen) are easy to care for and soothing and relaxing to sit near; can both be potted but Rosemary can grow to a large bush.
A trellis with climbing roses, honeysuckle, sweet pea (for a quick fix until other climbers mature), etc... is a useful way to add structure (height), and give privacy/shade.
There is a great variety of small water features one can place anywhere now.
Instead of decking have you considered a mosaic-style courtyard? you would then have year round interest
parsley is a biennial, the 2nd year will produce seed, also will 'bolt' if dry, so keep moist and in shade
last year I got 6 plants, the ones that grew best (2 ft high) were in shade most of the day, the ones in full sun stayed small
Peppers need lots of sun and warmth, unless in a southern area will need a green house,
the best small veg to grow now are raddish and lettuce, lots of varieties, some can grow well into Autumn

Anyone out there besides me that is going to kill that Orkin roach ...

TO "SHAME ON": we can still listen to it as well as it is removing louder. Do roaches revisit in pairs or armies? we can listen to them articulate in my kitchen. we am starting to take my pills as well as go to bed as well as hide. we will lapse tomorrow if they do not get me. DID we know roaches eat tellurian eyebrows? That is true, it is all protein for them.

Yes, and why must it continue to do it over and over again….once is bad enough! I guess it is doing what it was designed to do, make us take notice, but I just noticed and will remember that Orkin uses just plain annoying advertising, and that does not make me want to call them. I say we go to the store and buy something to fumigate it ourselves!! Or better yet, someone step on the thing and squash it! It will click, but only one more time ………..

I know exactly what you mean. That is one of THE most annoying damn things I’ve ever seen, or heard. I can’t shut off my speakers because I llike to listen to internet radio, and the animation is also annoying.

Shed Style: Architecture, Interiors, and Ornamentation In The ...

1. It’s Permeable : The patio, roof and driveway surfaces are designed to capture all of the property’s storm water runoff. The driveway’s decorative design uses recycled and perforated Pavestone concrete tiles. Water percolates into a 4,000-gallon cistern hidden under the driveway and, when needed, circulates through the property for irrigation and flowing through the Zen garden’s piped fountain. “We’ve created a self-contained water loop,” Mike points out.

  2. It’s Durable: Garden designer Lauren Schneider of   Wonderland Garden and Landscape in Oakland, chose a diverse, drought-tolerant plant palette. She worked closely with local growers to specify California native varieties, as well as plants from many Mediterranean regions, including South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, South America and Mexico. She closely observed the garden during its first year to evaluate whether each plant was durable enough to survive Oakland’s dry summer conditions with infrequent water.
