how do i landscape my front garden with loose slate,?
maas-river-2940

the garden has a small lawn, with bordering bushes, how do i stop weeds etc from growing thru the loose slate. do i put plastic sheeting and sand under the slate?

Dig off all the turf and other plants that you do not want.
Put down a layer of what we called Terram which is a black plastic woven sheeting sold in different widths.
Then place your choice of topping on top of this.
Slate is expensive so use some areas where you have just bark as this looks good but needs topping up every two or three years
Enjoy a trouble free maintanance free garden.

Where can I find free landscape and garden plans for front and backyards?
closeup 2.jpg

What I am asking for is an actualy landscape layout or design that describes which plants go where, ect.

Check around with friends and neighbors. Most perennials need to be divided fairly regularly, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to give you divisions of theirs. Same for ornamental grasses. Maybe you can collect some seeds from their gardens too.

what can i do with my neighbour who parks the front of his car on our front garden?
closeup 2.jpg

For over a year we have asked our neighbour constantly to park his van on his own land as it laps a lot on our lawn. He has totally ignored our request. Our house is semi detached and the front area is open plan. Also its annoying as our landscaped view is hidden behind his van which is falling into bits

I have a few thoughts.
1. Get some deer urine and spray it in his van on the seats and carpet.
2. Cut his brake lines.
3. Slice his tires.
4. Place nail spikes on your property and let him flatin his own tires.
5. Place a speaker in your yard and play loud sounds: Dogs barking or something annoying.
6. Put animal poop on the drivers seat.
7. Torch the van.
8. Grease the handles on the doors of his van.
9. Place a sign in his yard - saying something like "Child Molester lives here".
This is not to say you wont get into trouble - but I am sure you would get his attention.
If he disrespected my request - Id make him wish he never lived beside me.

How do I go about getting my money back paid up front for a garden makeover which has never taken place.?
closeup 2.jpg

Paid half money up front, was told would take one to two weeks to complete. This was nearly three months ago. Chap arrives always wants to use our phone, either too wet has to go elsewhere. We are left with a garden full of mud no grass. He never clears up and leaves his tools. We are up to our eyes in
mud and no landscape. He has been abusive and rude. He has left a huge crack in the driveway with his truck and cement mixer. I am now very scared of him. We do not see him for days/weeks unless we ring him then he will come and rotavote the mud and leave. I am thinking of a small claims court or claim off his insurance for the driveway at the very least.

Take him to court,he is a cowboy,if he turns up tell him you want your money back,be firm with him, here is a little friendly advice mate NEVER EVER pay for work up front,if they want paid upfront go somewhere else, you will maybe pay a little more but any decent business do the work first then get paid, good luck.

My gardening book lists plants to grow on scree and dry walls. Does this mean no soil is required?
Landscaped flower garden

I have recently had my front garden landscaped, mostly shingle and groups of rocks. Very low maintenance but rather bare (my daughter calls it "Stonehenge"). I am considering ornamental grasses, but would like some colour and cover. I must admit I am not an enthusiast!

You would be best to add some soil into the cracks before adding the plants. On old, established walls, the mortar and rock have deteriorated a little to make their own soil.....the seeds or spores just happen to land on that and can grow.

Speed things up a bit and just stuff some soil into the crevices.
