Landscaping Japanese Garden??
Japanese Garden

I'm working on a landscaping project for school and I need to make a Japanese garden suitable for Montana. So I need plant substitutes. Iike plants I can use that are similar to Camellia, Bamboo, Japanese Stewartia, Flowering quince and Black Mondo Grass

Depending upon where you live, there might be some local nurseries who can assist you in choosing suitable replacements or look-alike specimens for your Japanese Garden. Call around and ask them.

@Angel u r so great thank u very much

Japanese gardens often contain several of these elements to provide a beautiful & peaceful spot for contemplation:
Water, real or symbolic.
Rocks.
A lantern, typically of stone.
A teahouse or pavilion.
A enclosure device such as a hedge, fence, or wall of traditional character.
A bridge to the island, or stepping stones.

Use plants, stone & water (or pebbles to represent water)
Stones can be used to construct the garden's paths, bridges, and walkways.

You don't need to spend a lot of money on your garden because you can make use of natural elements already present. Just rearrange them so they are in harmony with the natural surroundings around them. A Japanese garden uses rocks, water and plants to recreate nature's most beautiful vistas
"Rocks represent mountains and hills, water represents streams, rivers and the ocean, and the plants can represent forests and the abundance of nature".
Stone features such as lanterns, water bowls and oriental statuary add a nice touch.

which of the two countries are the best at Gardening & Landscaping - The English/Japanese?
P1000720_292

Both Countries Are probably the best at what they do but, just who is it that's really the best in overall Knowledge & Skill?

They both have beautiful landscaping, but travelling through Britain you notice that it's got a lot to do with naturally growing things rather than human planning. It's just really colorful. Japanese landscaping is an art which they really put a lot of time into. The Japanese take a lot of pride in appearance and have some of the most ornamental and intricate gardens on Earth. I would say the Japanese. No offense to the Brits though. Don't want to get them too upset.

wanting a japanese garden in my front yard - where do I start?
Japanese House

I've just purchased a new home this is a pic of the front of it:

I am wanting to do a japanese style garden in the front... something very simple and basic and clean looking (I can't stand clutter).
I have no idea about landscaping and would like to do it myself but I don't know where to start.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
I would appreciate any help

Lorry load of small pebbles and lawn killer. Spread out pebbles and plant a few Japanese maples. OH! if you have a large pond build a bridge over it

Landscape Architecture Works in Japan?
P1000715_287

I am in Japan for a few weeks. I used to live here so I have seen the Kyoto gardens and the usual Japanese garden stuff. However, I am now a student in landscape architecture and I would like to explore more of the contemporary/recent designs here in Japan. Does anyone know of any designed specifically by lanscape architects or land artists in the Tokyo, Saitama, or Kyushu areas?

This might sound crazy, but since no one else has tried I will. Rent The Karate Kid. Go right to the credits and see who the set designer was. Search the web and try to contact. I'll bet whoever it is has a lot of contacts here and there. That's the best wild guess I have. Sayonara

  • The Wall Enclosing the Japanese Garden in the Brooklyn Botanic ...

BBG's Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden was the first Japanese garden to be created in an American public garden. It was constructed in 1914 and 1915 at a cost of $13,000, a gift of early BBG benefactor and trustee Alfred T. White, and it first opened to the public in June 1915. It is considered to be the masterpiece of its creator, Japanese landscape designer Takeo Shiota (1881-1943). Shiota was born in a small Japanese village about 40 miles (64 km) from Tokyo, and in his youth spent years traversing Japan on foot to explore its natural landscape. He emigrated to the United States in 1907. The garden is a blend of the ancient hill-and-pond style and the more modern stroll-garden style, in which various landscape features are gradually revealed along winding paths. Its 3 acres (1.2 ha) contain hills, a waterfall, a pond, and an island, all artificially constructed. Carefully placed rocks also play leading roles. Among the architectural elements of the garden are wooden bridges, stone lanterns,...

Moss – Love#39;em or Kill#39;em – and Japanese Gardens » Zeal For Your House

Moss is either loved or hated in the garden. People very often passionately rake it away. Why not to look at it as blessing to your garden? Its kinds are very difficult to recognize – you need proper book for that and magnifying glass. I don’t remember since when I love moss. I think since always. Soft, fragile and moist. In my garden moss is welcomed everywhere. I try to grow it on my stones as well. Few months ago I covered them with yoghurt dilluted with water 1:1. No great effect yet, just little greenish something appeared. I look for tranquility and harmony in the garden. In the smaller gardens it is even more important to not overload it with too many different plants.

I like them for meditative and tranquill character. I remember that in communist time in Poland there was not so many books about landscaping and Far East – that was of my special interest at that time. I made friends with the owner of the shop selling used/old books. Whenever something about Japan appeared on the shelf I was getting a phone call and I immediatelly run to the shop to see it.
