How to install landscape timbers for garden edging?

It depends on what you are using 3X4 pressure treat or 8X8 railroad ties. It also depends on if you are stacking them.

there are a couple of ways.
you can use 12" spikes form your local home improvement store for a single layer of 3X4 pressure treated. first drill a hole in the timber then hammer the spikes into the ground. If the ground is not solid or gets real muddy you may want to put about 3 " of lime stone under them.

for larger timber in stead of spikes use Re Bar that's the steel bar used to re-enforce concrete. again you local home improvement store should carry it. Cut them so that they are about 12" longer then the thickness of your timber. Drill holes in the timber about the same thickness as the re bar. Hammer the re bar though the hole into the ground.

Any tips/tricks on how to keep dogs out of my garden/landscape bedding?

I've been told that sprinkling a little cayenne pepper around the edges of landscaping helps keep cats out of it. However, my problem is the neighbor's dogs whom continue to urinate on my garden fencing and decorative landscaping. We live in duplex style housing, and have a common patio area. I like my neighbors and don't wish harm upon their dogs, but don't like my child playing on the things their dogs have "marked".

Here's what you need. You should be able to get it at Petsmart or any good pet supply, if you don't want to order online.

And it's a natural lemony scent so it won't harm your child.

Garden Edging ...How do you get that defined line around the garden edges???

My neighbor just had some landscaping done and it looks great. My question is how do the professional landscapers get that very defined line around the edge of the garden?

Hi, if your neighbors beds are new- they may have been cut from his lawn with a machine (which you can rent) that is made just for this purpose. It leaves pretty "clean lines".

Mainly, for existing beds- there are a few things that can be done. Firstly, give the planting space from the edge of the grass to where they begin. This allows for a buffer zone that looks nice and can be used as a "gutter" that subtley builds away into the beds. This area can be maintained when the grass is cut to keep grass runners in check. (Use a weed whacker turned to the side or a simple pair of had trimmers to keep it neat and trimmed...
Fresh mulch, regularly fluffed and turned will enhance the shap edges.
Good luck

Great thinking Squid.... Still looking for additional ideas

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
