how to landscape a townhouse patio?

How do I landscape around a townhouse patio that is 12' x 25' ? Right now there is nothing but a concrete patio.

Think container gardening, but here's some ideas.....

Pay attention to where the sun shines in your patio area. If you would like to have box gardens, or a small patch of grass, plan to have them in the areas that receive consistent amounts of sunlight. After all, they will need sunlight to thrive.

If you are planning for a fence, remember to plan the fence height and location not to interfere with your garden plans. A fountain or small waterfall will add a luxurious and exotic feel to your patio. Running water helps obscure outside noises and creates a relaxing atmosphere, especially if you are in an urban area or have noisy neighbors. There is nothing more pleasant than enjoying a meal on your patio, and the sound of murmuring water will complete this experience. So make sure you design an area large enough for a table and a few chairs. If you are very limited on space, built-in planters with wide borders offer a place to sit for buffets and casual gatherings.

What the best kind of stuff to use to landscape a small fenced in patio that my dog sometimes uses?

cedar mulch. Ceder helps absorbs any smell and deters insects.

I have a landscaping question. Would like info about landscaping around my patio?

We just extended our patio last year and have a few things around it, like rose bushes, tulips and mums. We would like to plant a couple dogwood trees near the patio but we do not know if it is feasible to do this or not. I certainly do not want the patio tore up by roots from the trees down the road. Are dogwood trees compatibile with being close to a patio and also would it be better to shop for some dwarf dogwoods? What kind of ornamental trees are advisable around a patio?
Where can we get ideas on what other items to plant around a patio, such as shrubs etc. We were also thinking in the near future to put a little white wrough iron fence around the patio and landscaped area. Any websites I could look at for some good practical advice. Thanks for the answers.

I think dogwoods would be fine near the patio, but remember that dogwoods like to grow in the shade of other trees. Japanese Maple is a stunning choice as well, ornamental pear, crepe myrtle - all good. To help control the root issue, which I don't think would be much anyway with small ornamental trees, consider planting them in in a circular raised bed contained with landscape block or whatever treatment you want.

Punch! Landscape deck & patio designer?

Ok so I have the Punch! Landscape Deck & Patio Designer software it works great but I have a problem when rendering. Ok so you know the Live View tab well I click on it and the Live View comes up but its black it only starts to render when I move around, but then when I stop moving it goes black again. It’s real annoying because you can’t do anything. Any help would be a life saver,

If no one is able to help you here, try visiting Lawnsite.com. It's a forum for those in the landscaping industry, and I've seen several posts in regards to Punch! Landscape & Patio Designer...it seems that many people have problems with the program. Check out a link to another program we sometimes use for design. Good luck!

Segmental retaining walls are a great way to define separate spaces within one landscape. Separating the sitting area from the pool with a low block wall provides seating opportunities and is installed without mortar. Remember, when designing a soil-reinforced wall keep in mind factors such as site, soil, weight loads and the height of the wall.

Landscape architects often select construction materials based on their ability to satisfy aesthetic constraints. Structural facades, geometry, and plantings often work together to provide an inviting setting that is both pleasing to the owner and user of a facility. Segmental retaining wall systems are often the product of choice when it comes to merging landscape and structural building features.

Our preferred choice of paver systems for our clients is Eagle Bay . Eagle Bay Systems create beautiful and functional outdoor living spaces.  With Eagle Bay Pavers we can customize a clients project for retaining walls, seat walls, columns, pavers and more as it  offers hundreds of color, texture and size options.

(ARA) – Summer is the season for DIYers to complete outdoor home improvement projects, but even the most enthusiastic homeowner wants to make the best use of time so he or she can still enjoy the beautiful summer days.

Here are some common patio and landscaping projects and time-saving tips for completing them more easily, with better results:

* Fast-setting concrete fixes fencing in a snap. Are you putting in a fence? Fixing one that just doesn’t look as good as it used to? You don’t need special equipment to get the job done right. Start by digging a new hole for the post. If one already exists, remove the loose post and clean out the existing hole.

For easy results that last, use a fast-setting concrete mix. Simply pour the dry mix directly into the hole and add water. This activates the cement and the mix will set in approximately 30 minutes. Remember to make sure posts are straight before concrete hardens. You can use this process for other outdoor projects like adding light fixtures or a mail box.
