I need to landscape around my pool. What plants are tolerant of the inevitable splashes of pool water. I live in northeast illinois. I prefer perennials and shrubs over annuals.

Any Plant You Want. I have never had any problem with the hundreds of plants I have put around pools. Did you know that they use chlorine in rooting hormones ? The amount of chlorine splashed upon the plants will be minuscule. If you want just some suggestions then daylilies, peonies, daises are some perennials. Lilacs, dwarf spirea, dwarf hollies, shrub roses, and potentilla are some shrubs.

I live in Plano Texas and I want to redo the planting bed behind my pool. i would like somethingn low maintenance, durable, somewhat colorful and low cost (meaning I can do it myself without professionals getting involved). What are my best choices ?

Mexican heather, Hibiscus and Fan Palm are good choices.

we are looking to put in a pool above or inground but not sure which way to go we want the cheapest but not crap with landscaping, cant seem to find much on the internet maybe not looking at the right sights in australia

look up the phone book, there should be something on landscaping, call them up and ask them for the estimated price and make sure you call a few to find the best price that best suits you

and GET A CONTRACT from your city hall, most ppl get sued by the city, even if your contracter/landscaper says that you don't need it, get it incase
i've seen many cases in canada of ppl getting ripped off all the time

I have a small area behind my pool where there are a few decent-sized palm trees and grass and weeds. We want to do something attractive with that area, but we don't have a lot of money. It's hard to mow there because everything goes flying into the pool. We've pulled the grass out a few times, but that is frustrating, back breaking work that lasts much shorter than you'd think. It grows back pretty darned fast. I've been told not to landscape with lava rock. What can I use? I need rocks that are big enough that if they're knocked into the pool, they won't be sucked up by the vacuum. I'm up for any ideas at this point. I live in the DFW area of Texas.

We have neighbors all around us, behind and on both sides, so growing something that will spread is difficult. We considered bamboo, but don't want it popping up in our neighbors' well-manicured lawns.

Help... please.

Hey,,,,, I'm in Plano. I had shrubs around my pool. They had to be trimmed regularly....back breaking work. My son and myself dug them all up. Not really that hard. I planted "yuccas" and "cactus". They don't have to be watered nor trimmed. They look great and cost very little. I went for a ride to Breckenridge, TX. There are several small gravel roads past Weatherford. You can drive down them and dig up cactus. I did. Replanted them and they are doing great. Also while there, I filled the back of the truck with good size rocks. Not too big so you couldn't lift them. I put down red and black landscape lava rock. Put the large rocks all over the place. Looks great. Did the same with the front of the house. I made about three trips to pickup more rocks. They cost allot of money if you buy them at Home Depot. All they cost me was gas. I bet I got about 100 of 'em. Good Luck!!!!

I am thinking of getting about a 300-400 dollar above ground pool. We live in the desert so we dont have grass. We have gravel, like landscaping gravel.
I thought an old comforter then a tarp but what are someother ideas?

Definitely remove the rocks and add sand. Don't you just love it when a $300-400 pool becomes a $700-1000. job? :)
