I bought some Malibu landscape solar lights. I installed them yesterday, and they were working in the evening. Today it rained and some of them stopped working. Or better they are flickering. Light goes on and off.
Could the rain have effected the lights or do they still need more time to charge?
Please help because I am ready to return them. So frustrated.
they may need more time to charge. check that all the batteries are firmly in place. you can try to charge them right under a light in the house for a day. mine took a really good sunny day before they really took off, but when i got up at 5 am and it was just starting to get light, they were STILL on! now that its fall, though, none of them are on for more that a couple hours after dark

I wonder if it has all leached out yet? I live in north Texas we get a good rain now and again. As of today I have my tomatoe plants and squash plants surrounded by the same wood.
Byron, you got me thinkin' now! It was an old issue of Organic Mag that I read that in. 36 inches huh?
My feeling about PT lumber
1. It was discontinued in my lumber yard circa Sept 2001 It was on 20-20 that this stuff has been discontinued
As far as being in playground equipment, Myself and 12 other local carpenters went to a town meeting and asked them not to use PT lumber on our local playground, but the yuppies knew better, $80,000 wasted.
2. The replacement treated lumber has exactly the same installation instructions, IE Google, breathing protections, change clothes, wash etc. ad nausium
3. Organic gardening Mag. claims that Arsenic migrates 36" horizontally in veggie garden
3. Some thoughts to consider
A. Phosphate P Atomic weight 30.9737
B. Potassium K Atomic weight 39.0983
C. Calcium CA Atomic weight 40.078
D Arsenic AS Atomic weight 74.9216
If fertilizer has to be applied within 6" of a plant, In my mind it means that it will not migrate 36"
How does a heavy metal at almost 2x the atomic weight migrate 36"?????
If AS is applied under pressure, how is it released with no pressure ???
Which plant uptakes what metal under what conditions and how much?
I am aware that tomatoes will uptake aluminum IF the soil pH is around 5.5

The pond is located outside the verandah and is only 50% covered by a sloping tiled roof. I have about 5 -7 Koi carp fishes. In addition, there are around 25-30 mollies and 30 of their new babies.I feed them food pellets every morning.
There are few plants in there as well, kept in pots and then placed in the pond. There is a landscaped garden around the pond and rain water does flow through the lawn into the pond in addition to the rain water falling from the edge of the sloping tiled roof. I have tried to partly screen the pond with tall grass and other plants. Every 15-20 days I have to pump out the water and keep the fish in a bucket and painstakingly clean the pond but within a weeks time the water gets murky and filled with algae so dense that it is difficult to see the fishes unless they are at the surface. I could attach pics later. I need suggestions on how to use a filtration system to keep the pond clean and adda small waterfall.
I have a 210 gallon pond in our backyard that is about 90% exposed into the outside world (it's being protected by garden plants around it)
We've never had this problem before because we have a waterfall at the back of it. The water fall is obviously a wall. It is a wall covered (decorated, to be more accurate) by natural rocks. we cycle the pond twice a day and add water to it everyday to make up for the loss of water due to evaporation.
The waterfall if the main filter of the pond. water flows down the natural rocks hence enticing algea and other dirty stuff to cling to it, leaving only clean water to flow back down in the pond.
In the more than 5 years we;ve had the pond, it only underwent one majo clean up because all the fishes died (thanks to my obnoxiously large snakehead who ate all of my other big fishes). Now, it is a home to peaceful carps and kois.
Large area garden. I used bush mulch which is shredded waste limbs, leaves etc bought from a landscape supplier.
put soaker hoses underneath the mulch. make small holes spaced apart for the rain to go down. be creative. the mulch will help to retain moisture and level temperature swings, and to an extent keep weeds out, but it's real easy to over mulch and block water and oxygen from getting to the roots.
I live in Minnesota so July gets very hot with very little rain. I have heard about some people poking holes in garden hoses to water their landscaping plants and I think that sounds like a good idea. I just want to know if anyone has done it and if it worked well. I don't really want to spend even that little bit of money for something that doesn't work.
Get a five-gallon bucket (like a paint or drywall bucket), and drill a small hole (1/4" or so) in the bottom. You can do this with it plugged or not, but fill the bucket with the hose, and then let the water slowly run out the hole and soak the roots of your plants.

How to Construct a Rain Garden - eXtension
Released August 17, 2009
LONDON, Ohio – When installed properly, rain gardens capture water, reducing irrigation needs and storm water flow, while beautifying the landscape. Visitors to Ohio State University’s Farm Science Review can get more information on the construction and maintenance of rain gardens, which are becoming more popular in urban areas across Ohio.
Dave Dyke, an Ohio State University Extension educator in agriculture and natural resources, will present “Rain Gardens” at 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 in the Utzinger Garden. The Utzinger Garden is located on Friday Avenue of the Review’s exhibitor grounds. Farm Science Review will be held Sept. 22-24 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio.
Dyke will provide an overview of rain garden installation and maintenance focusing on selecting a location, design, plant selection and weed control.
“There are many misconceptions about rain gardens, from what a rain garden should look like, to plant selection, to misinformation about soil amendments,” said Dyke. “Part of the presentation is designed to clear up some of those misconceptions.”

A Rain Garden is a natural or created depression on your property that if located in the right place down slope from your buildings foundation and up slope from storm drain infrastructure will collect storm water and filter out any pollutants. Scientists have found that nutrient and sediment pollution is the largest threat to our water quality making the Rain Garden so important to a more sustainable method to controlling water runoff.
