What are the differences between a landscape architect, contractor, and designer?
700 Presidio Shoot

Can someone tell me the differences in those fields as in what their job responsibilities are, skill requirements, salary, etc? Thank you very much! :) I am incredibly interested in Landscape Architecture, however, there are limited colleges near me (I already have to drive 2 hours to Tampa for LA college). Also, I am currently a concept artist/illustrator and skilled with Photoshop, so maybe landscape designer is best for me?

Landscape Architects design the landscape which is the outside for example around the house, flowers, driveway design ponds, etc. They must be skilled in visual arts and computer applications if neccessary. They make at least $75,00-$100,000 a year depending on skill level and reputation. Contractors get the workers for the jobs and oversee the project. Designers design the inside from rooms to kitchen accessories.

whats the difference between a Landscape Designer and Landscape Architect.?
The Stairs

So I'm curious about the differences between Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design. My university offers a Degree in Landscape Design and Management and a Masters in Landscape Architecture.

I'm only asking this b/c I an Architecture major and we recently did a project in which there was alot of landscape design involved which I really enjoyed. I LOVE Arch. I'm pretty good at it. Its just that I'm sort of undecieded as to whether I should stick to regular Arch. and obtain my B.ARCH degree and wonder what if. Or change my major to landscape design or what have you. Just note that all are very time consuming and I have no time to minor.

How much would one in each profession normally make with and w/o expirience (coming right out of school)? I'm not in this for the money, though I love plants and was born with a green thumb.

How great do your drawing skills need to be? I'm better at technical drawings rather than free hand.

Please, no Wikipedia definitions.

Landscape architects have professional registries similar to engineers and structural architects. You must serve under a registered landscape engineer for a set amount of time before you can take the state board test. I'm not sure if a degree in landscape design would meet the educational requirement for a RLA. You may want to contact your state board of RLA's.

All of the landscape plans that I see are CADD (computer aided drafting & design) produced. The following site will answer most of your questions:

Landscape designers & Landscape architect?
The Stop

Is Landscape designers & Landscape architecture do the same ?

yes. designer is maybe more proper, but architects landscape is a brunch. Architects and students can specialise on landscape, even though there are schools of only landscape.

CAD for construction trades? Plumbing? Landscape? Architecture? Careers?
Kaitlin Photoshoot

I'm a print graphic designer (packaging) and I'm looking for a career change. I'd love to get into a more technical field where my experience is at least somewhat relative.

What are the industry standard applications? Mac? I've done a little 3d in Lightwave and Modo but it REALLY doesn't interest me. I'm looking more at the technical aspects.

Any ideas? Advice?

1. BArch (- 7 years to complete) - Architect

2. Bdes (Hons) Architectural Property Development - (3 years to complete) - Real estate agent, housing associations, property development, local councils, renovation advisor or interior stylist.

3.Bdes (Hons) Inclusive Design - ( 3 years to complete) - same as 2 + virtual reality visualisation, landscape designer, healthcare environments designer

4.BSC (Hons) Architectural Design Technology - (3 years to complete) - works closely with architects and can design small projects also bridges the gap between Architects drawing and production on a building sight - Architectural Technician.

5.Bsc (Hons) Architectural Visualisation - (3 years to complete) - same as 4 but produces real time models on computer of Architects drawing 3D modelling etc

6.Bsc (Hons) Computer Aided Design and Construction - (3 years to complete) - draw plans like architects but using computers and can also redraw an architect's drawing and subject it to engineering laws or assess the impact of a drawing to solutions on existing settings .

7.Bsc (Hons) Design Technology - ( 3 years to complete)same as 5 but they design a building in parallel with engineering technology e.g. design a building including the lift or mechanical stair system -

8.Bsc (Hons) Interior Architecture Design - ( 3 years to complete) - finishing designers e.g. film or theatre design, exhibition hall designer etc

9.Bsc ( Hons) Product Design and Innovation - (3 Years to complete) - same as 7 but they actually specialise in the design of the product like the details of the lift or details of the hydraulic doors.

Well I hope this gives you light but you actually need to get a career counsellor
