    Great Park Restoration Ecologist Steven Handel, Ph.D., Wins 2009 National Award for Research

    June 11, 2009 – IRVINE, California – Orange County Great Park Design Team Member and lead Ecologist Steven Handel, Ph.D., was the only person to receive a 2009 “National Honor Award for Research” from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).  Dr. Handel was honored for his research project titled, “ Restoration Ecology Processes to Advance Natural Landscape Design .” The project was chosen by a jury composed of senior members of ASLA and members of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.    The Orange County Great Park Design Team also won a 2009 Professional Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for their work on the Observation Balloon Preview Park.

    ”This award demonstrates the Great Park’s commitment to ecological restoration and advancing the natural landscape design of the Orange County Great Park,” said Larry Agran, Chair, Orange County Great Park Board Corporation.
