My hubby & I are buying a "fixer-upper" home. What's a good magazine for ideas on both interior & exterior design (including landscaping, decks, construction, architecture, styles, flooring, kitchens, baths, etc....)?

Laurie c has some good suggestions (I'm kind of biased about one in particular!). FYI Fine Homebuilding includes a mix of technical material for contractors and design-oriented material for homeowners.

I know this sounds CRAZY being like 14 but... im incredibly interested in design in any way fgrom interior landscaping deck or even fashion. Its been my dream job for like ever.. any way to start or something

Go to the library and research different design areas to see where your interests and strengths lie. Do you like inside or outside? Ask your parents if you can use your home as your first experience. Explore and have fun with your ideas!

If you really want Punch software then go for the Punch Master Landscape Pro Version 10, it has 2000 plants. You may want to check out the review sites.

How much does it cost to start a lawn care and landscaping business dealing with: retaining walls, mulch beds, laying out landscape designs, lawn mowing, and constructions of decks and patios. And also what would be the grand total abouts with the insurance and all the equipment i would need? Thanks! :)

depends on what equipment if any you already have -
for doing the landscape design portion - it won't cost much -
at all
for the lawn care - if you want to start with good equipment -
you'll need at least one walk behind mower, and a good tight radius mower - figure about $6000 - $8000
a trailer - $2000 ?
Pickup truck - used/new???
tools - rakes, shovels, etc..... $300- $400
chain saw - $300
trimmers- $250 ea

for the deck building - unless you want to dig footings by hand
figure on either renting a power auger for each job - or buying one - if you buy probably around $1200

then saws, hammers (manual - pneumatic??) levels , compressor, generator- etc...
$300 - $4000 depending on how much you buy

and you better have some operating cash as well -
at least $2000-$3000

for your lawn cutting business - you should get paid weekly - or try to set up contracts where they give you a downpayment at the begining of the year - and then pay you monthly

on your landscaping business - they should pay you something for the design - if they give you the landscaping job tell them you'll deduct the design fee off the cost of the landscaping job - for the landscaping you should get
1/3 up front - 1/3 after all the beds are prepped/top soil in and shrubs delivered - and then 1/3 when you complete

same holds true for your deck jobs - 1/3 up front - 1/3 when materials get delivered - 1/3 when complete

recently, I had installed an above ground 12 foot diameter pool. the grass has been killed off around the surrounding area, and I have only had time to put a few potted tropical plants in places.
I wont be doing any major work now with summer almost over, but I want to design over the winter something nice to do for next year. A running deck even to the top of the pool isnt an option. but what about one that is 1 foot off the ground? so that it could be walked on, have pool toys sit there and that way my kids and i dont have to walk in the mud around it?
should it be wood or some other material? wood seems like high maintenance. I guess I could just build a landscaping bed but it might get ruined with too muich water when it splashes out and it drains when i clean it once a month.

one thing you might consider is a cool deck this is a deck that no matter how hot it gets this deck will not burn your feet.they do work i have been on them bare footed. and you can have any color you want owner of pool company for eleven years.
