Landscape design/architecture?
Costagravas Yalisi #4 Pink tulips by Organica

I've always been interested in gardens/landscape/flowers/ trees, etc. I want to make designing/beautifying gardens my hobby. I am just starting out and I have a lot to learn...

There are 2 parts to my question:
--What's the difference between landscape design and landscape architecture?
--Do I need to become a plant expert? For example, if I am planning a section of a garden and I want a tree that has beautiful large pink flowers, should I be expected to list the names of all trees that match this description? (i.e. the magnolia tree). Do I need to become knowledgeable of the life cycles of all different types of plants and what specifically needs to be done to take care of them (i.e. know that X plant needs a lot of sunlight and a lot of water, while Y plant grows well in clay soil, etc)?

Thanks!

Landscape architechure is a degreeand more too learn.

Landscape design is kind of just a job description. Doesn't really mean the same thing everywhere or to everybody.

You will need to have a reasonable working knowledge of the plants for your area to be any good at it. Learning about the plants is a big part of the fun of it.

Just keep reading and experimenting in your garden. Learn the plants you have and can get.

And take time to relax with the plants. They will help you learn if you watch.

What design would make want to get a professional massage? colors, landscapes?
Costagravas Yalisi #3 The entrance

I'm going to order business cards and want some input on what design to use. I'm thinking a beach or waterfall landscape or flowers. Or should I go with the typical foto of someone getting a massage? Should have a business name or use Massage Therapy by Me? Are there colors you associate with massage? Thanks for your input and help.

You really should get a professional design done - someone who may have created other similar designs and can make something look really catchy.

Reduced Printing is an inexpensive place to get free business cards, and the design is really cheap

  • Monochromatic Gardening

Gardens are grown to be enjoyed, whether by animals, creepy crawlies, or you, the gardener. But the planning process, and all the decisions that go along with making a garden pleasant to enjoy are not always easy.

One way to simplify this process is to garden monochromatically. Each section of your garden, or your entire garden, would represent a color of your choosing. This will limit your choice of plants and flowers immediately, making your decisions come that much quicker, so you can start enjoying garden.

Below are some monochromatic flower color schemes to get you started.

Father and son landscaping duo from Crosby claim gold with their first ever Southport Flower Show entry

A FATHER and son landscaping team from Crosby have been celebrating after scooping a gold award at the Southport Flower Show.

Jeff Rawsthorne and his father-in-law John Baldwin of Crosby Landscapes, impressed the judges with their art deco style garden on the first day of the show.

In keeping with the 1920s theme of the four-day event, the pair gained inspiration from Clarice Cliff, one of the most prolific art deco ceramics designer of the 20th century.

As the only exhibitors from Crosby on the opening day of the show, their garden was awarded gold in the medium garden category.

Jeff, of Moorgate Avenue, said: “To have won an award in our first year entering the competition is great. We have attended the Flower Show as spectators before, but we had a great time going as competitors.
