I am going for my bachelors in horticulture in the spring and am wondering about the agriculture career field..
I search careers for a landscape designer and dont find too much, how are the jobs?
Is it easy to step up in the career, i.e. landscape architect, business ownership.?
As a designer, you can start your own business pretty easily, with few startup costs and should be able to make a comfortable living.
The next step would be to become a landscape architect, but I'm not sure what the earning would be at this present time.
What if you could make and design an eco-friendly landscape improvement that helps add value to the area surrounding it? With this teaching ...
I love to garden. I read A LOT of books and magazines on gardening, landscaping just plants in general. I have some landscape software that I enjoy and thought that I could peruse my interest and make a career out of it. What steps do I need to take??
You should look into programs at your local University.. all reputible landscape designers are Regisered Landscape Architects, so look into that too.
I think all really good LA's have knowledge of the plant material that they are using. Too many times I see landscapes with plants in the wrong place, which causes problems for the plant in the long run...
Definitely take a lot of plant ID courses, work in gardens or garden centers to get hands on experience, and get registered as a landscape architect! (http://www.asla.org/)
Good luck and have fun!!

or designer...i was wondering if there's anyone out there with that profession, and if so, tell me everything you can about it. what's the first step to getting there? how much schooling? in a college a special school just for that? do you enjoy it? is it satisfying? do you make a lot of money? get good business? is it stressfull? how long did it take you to become successfull? and any othher info you might have. thanks in advance.
I'm a licensed Landscape Architect. I enjoy my work. It isn't something that will make you rich, but you can make a good living at it. I think the national average for starting salary just out of school is about $39k, but after gaining about 5 years of experience and getting licensed, it is nearly twice that. There are numerous fields that you can specialize in if you want.
You will need to attend an accredited program. You didn't mention where you were but here is a website with a list of schools with either/both undergrad and grad programs. http://www.asla.org/nonmembers/education /accred_prog_alpha.htm Some schools have a 4 year and others have a 5 year undergrad program. I went to Utah State University in Logan, Utah, since it is one of the best west of the Mississippi River and it is only a 4 year program.
Send me an e-mail with your contact information and I can send you more info.

Yes, if you don't take time from your interior designing advances to get it. It would really round out your skills and your sensabilities. It could really give you a leg up on your competition!
I'm a print graphic designer (packaging) and I'm looking for a career change. I'd love to get into a more technical field where my experience is at least somewhat relative.
What are the industry standard applications? Mac? I've done a little 3d in Lightwave and Modo but it REALLY doesn't interest me. I'm looking more at the technical aspects.
Any ideas? Advice?
