I have one I bought from the college a few years ago, but it was a hassle to set it up and I didn't like the plant choices.
I'll have to go home and get the name of the one favorite of mine - it's pretty good, and has a huge library of plants and outdoor "equipment" including playscapes, outbuildings, and rocks, my second favorite "plant" for landscaping with. lol I hope to get back online in a couple of days - if not, I'll email you with the program. =)

I am a landscape designer, but I do hand drawn plans only. I am looking to invest in software. I work for a small but busy landscape company and I just don't have the time to do it all by hand anymore.

I love to garden. I read A LOT of books and magazines on gardening, landscaping just plants in general. I have some landscape software that I enjoy and thought that I could peruse my interest and make a career out of it. What steps do I need to take??
You should look into programs at your local University.. all reputible landscape designers are Regisered Landscape Architects, so look into that too.
I think all really good LA's have knowledge of the plant material that they are using. Too many times I see landscapes with plants in the wrong place, which causes problems for the plant in the long run...
Definitely take a lot of plant ID courses, work in gardens or garden centers to get hands on experience, and get registered as a landscape architect! (http://www.asla.org/)

I use DesignWare 3.0 it is easy to use and relatively cheap.
Im trying to find a cheap copy of PRO Landscape landscape designer by drafix software (cant afford the latest full price release)
