I have been told by many that my work is very beautiful and that I should go into business for myself. I love to design yards and I feel I am very good at it. I have never had my own business before so I really don't even know where to start. Do I need a licence for this? When and If I did start do I pay for all the lawn design and then charge them for it afterwards? How much does ones usually charge for something like this? I know it cost me a pretty penny to do my own yard.LOL Plus all the time I had into it. I built my own ponds, bridges, flower pots, Large and small driftwood decor, painted what ever needed to be painted, had several decor water pumps running, Large stumps of wood for some of the water decor pumps to sit on. I halled in lava rocks, river rocks, large bolder rocks for design, many flower plants, wind chimes, tie kie torches, indoor outdoor rope lights that swirled through the ground plants, ground ornaments, ground lights, green viens through the back fencing, ect
Well, do you you want to design yards, or have a landscaping business?? A landscaping business needs quite a few pieces of machinery, to mow, take down old trees, trucks, etc.
Maybe you could call some landscaping companies, and see if they have a "design" person, that would meet with the homeowners, and go over what needs to be planted where, etc. I do not know if they have a person, or if they are just designers in general. I am not in landscaping, just offering some ideas.
Hope that helped, and good luck.
I have to do a project for my landscape design class and I need to use river rock. Does anyone know how much ground will be covered per bag of (.5) cubic feet of river rock? Thanks.
It depends on how deep you want the cover. If you want a 1 inch depth then, it will cover 6 square feet. If you want a 2 inch depth then, it will cover 3 square feet. A 3 inch depth will cover 2 square feet.
I don't know if any of you may be able to give me a website, where they show any designs for landscaping. I have a new house, so I am working with my garden. I have a front bay and I am planning to put some tipe of design underground with rocks and all that. I don't know where I could get some ideas in how to do a design for my landscape.
Try bhg.com, lowes.com, and home depot. I think it was bhg.com that had quite a few different designs. Most all of your flower catalogs have designs for shade and sunny beds. You can sign up to get a bunch of those catalogs free,,Burgess, Royal Dutch, Burpee, Michigan Bulb, Spring Hill, etc. Sign up to be a member of the garden club at Home Depot and Lowes. Lowes will even send you a little magazine every so often. But both of those sites have alot of gardening information. Good luck.
Minerals on ancient Martian rock formed in a habitable environment
Researchers led by David McKay of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, caused a sensation 13 years ago when they proposed that a chunk of Mars rock found in Antarctica, called ALH 84001, contained possible signs of past life on the Red Planet, including complex carbon-based molecules and some microscopic objects shaped like bacteria.
But, the claim was never widely accepted.
Other scientists countered that the shapes were ambiguous and that the complex carbon-based molecules could have been produced without life, since they are also found in chunks of asteroids that fall to Earth as meteorites, for example.
Some argued that the carbon in the meteorite could have been deposited in very harsh conditions, involving water at more than 150 degrees Celsius.
Even the hardiest known terrestrial microbes die above about 120 degrees C.
But, according to a report in New Scientist, a new analysis suggests that the water involved was cool enough to allow for life, which at least keeps open the possibility of fossilized life in the meteorite.

You can use landscaping rock to add some depth and texture to your landscaping design. This landscaping rock can come in a couple of different forms, actually there are quite a few. Not only is there a find collection of colors of landscaping rock there is also several different kinds of stone to choose from. Different landscaping designs will require different landscaping rock. You can get small landscaping rock or larger landscaping rock.
The trick to using landscaping rock successfully is to fully integrate them into your yard and the design. You need to place them in places that will add to the yard, not in places that will make it look like you are trying to cover something up or take attention away from another part of the yard. If you were to just put your landscaping rock here and there you will be doing nothing for the yard and your yard will end up looking strange and unbalanced. You should plan exactly where each landscaping rock should be placed for the ultimate good effect.
