I need some backyard landscaping designs to get ideas for my own yard. Is there a website where I can find these? Or if you can send me the design or your backyard it would be appreciated. I live in arizona and have a fairly big backyard any ideas (ie. what plants, trees rocks, grass, stone walkways etc.) thanks

I was looking for something else and came acrossed a website that offers tips on finding good landscape software. The sidebar to the left on the site shows available software. Here it is. Hope it helps!

Web sites for landscaping/shrubbery/plants?
Rooftop Lounging

Hi All!

My husband and I recently bought a house and have been working on remodeling the inside (kitchen, bathrooms etc). When the weather gets warmer we're hoping to be able to get outside and re-do the landscaping. Currently there are large (and overgrown) bushes on either side of our stairs that are an eye sore and need to be replaced.

I was wondering if anyone knows any good web sites that show landscape design ideas, pictures of different types of shrubbery or plants and ideas for mulch or edging stones. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Helkp with description of landscaping/ planting / garden design project...?
Sallie Mae on Bluemont Way, Reston Town Center

i am completing my entry for the 2009 BALI a wards and am trying to write a description for our entry but am struggling a little.

the project was carried out in the garden of a townhouse property and comprises of a raised patio area with raised, rendered planters around the raised patio with integrated seating. The rest of the garden is laid to lawn and aggregate areas with an unusual stepping stone pathway and lots of suitable planting.

does anyone have any useful input or excellent garden decsription skills or give me a clu how to make my description stand out from the bog standard.

if i had apicture that would be 100x easier than traying to explain but if anyone if good with words please have a go at helping me out!!

thanks :)

As a columnist I can at least give you some tips:

Start with an evocative statement for the first line that gets their attention, so be provocative!.
.
Next, give the reader a big picture description of what you tried to do with the design in concept..

Provide no more than five details about the best points of the garden such as those you mention in your question, but make them colorful, literally.

Summarize with how it's changed the way the owner lives outdoors.

Then close with an emotional wrap up that somehow relates to that first attention getting statement.

Landscape lighting? Does anyone know of a company that can help with lighting design?
stone house with garden

I understand the wiring and voltage drop etc... I need help with the lighting design. I want to light up the front of my home (stone face)(wall wash & columns) and do some up lighting and down lighting on trees (moon lighting effect) (wooded lot -nice mature trees). I've seen some really nice lighting in my area and understand the concepts but need help in knowing what kind of fixtures and bulbs - also placement.

Any suggestion on a good company? Minnesota - Twin Cities

ELS (Executive Lighting Solutions) They helped me out. It's great you can send them photos and they can even draw right on them to let you know where to put the fixtures. I was impressed with their knowledge on how to light different areas. I had gone through a couple of different landscape contractor but they didn't seem to know much about the different techniques, they just wanted to sell me fixtures.

Good luck. (I think they are up in your neck of the woods)

Is there landscaping software that does this?
stone walk night scene

I would like to download a photo of my front yard on a website where I can play with plants, stones, kerbing etc to design my own garden. Anybody know where or IF there is any software available that does this.... for free? Haha. If not free, any good reccommendations? Cheers.

No free landscaping software came up. These are the only 2 that seem to have any merit.

  • Creating a traditional dry stone wall with local resources ...

As you travel from place to place in the UK (or the world) there is much historical evidence of localised material production and use.

In areas such as Wales, Scotland and Cornwall, local stone, often only hauled across a field from a quarry adjacent to its final resting place, has been used for whole villages, including boundary walls and even roofs.

Wood was cut in the local woodland with straw and mud taken from neighbouring farmland. Often, clay pits would be opened up and the clay fired to produce bricks and tiles.

On land that has high flint content, the flint was knapped and used in conjunction with brick and stone to build houses - all in all, a sensible way to utilise natural resources as close as possible to the building site.

I think that garden designers and landscapers (and house builders) are faced with an increased challenge of sourcing and using local materials in new gardens or additional features in existing schemes.

In this You Tube video, Cornwall Landscaping demonstrates how local stone is used to build strong but, aesthetically pleasing, boundary walls.

Using Stones In Your Landscaping Design | Home and Gardening

If you are looking for stones to use in your landscaping design, then you are in luck. Stones for landscaping come in a wide variety of different colors and sizes to enable you to find exactly the right look for your particular landscaping design.

    Finding the Right Stones

You may be able to find some great stones in your own yard. If you live in an area that is rocky, then you may be able to find some rocks simply by digging in your yard. Your landscaping design will thank you for the added visual interest and texture.

    Purchasing Stones for Landscaping

You should have no difficulty in finding stones to purchase for your landscaping design. Most garden stores and home improvement stores carry a wide variety of different colored and sized stones. You may also be able to locate a private landscaping company that sells stones, as well. They may even deliver them right to your home if needed.
