I was thinking Cutting Edge Landscape Construction, but haven't settled on it yet. I want something cool and different from the rest of the "john doe"lawn care places. I do hardscapes, stonework, ponds, and landscape maintenance. Help me come up with something creative that stands out. Thanks......
Choose a name that is easy to remember, if you want people will be easy to know you. If your business service is very specific, try to choose a specific name too, eq Cutting Edge Technology, Cutting Edge Design etc.
But if you plan to brand your business service, choose a unique name, eq "Your Name" Design etc

I want to landscape a long strip of trees in the centre of my lawn by creating a trench, putting weed-mat down, planting my trees (in pots) and filling the rest of the trench in with bark. Do i need to put wood around the edge of the trench?
Some kind of edging might make maintenance a little easier - it'll be harder for the surrounding grass in the lawn to encroach if there is a barrier of some kind.
But it's not required.
Another thought - what kind of trees? And what size pot? Unless the trees you're planting are very small, and of a dwarf variety that is going to STAY small - I would not recommend planting your trees in pots.

Small mounds of earth have appeared in our lawn, mostly near the edge of our driveway and landscaping. We think they are from moles or gophers.
How can we get rid of them? We have small children, so would prefer to not use poisons. Some additional info, we are located in the great plains region of the USA.
I had this problem a few years ago. I had heard of a solution on NPR years before and it works great. If you have a cat, use the used pee litter and put it down the mole / gopher hole. The moles / gophers hate the smell of this and move on. I know it sounds gross but it works. And it won't hurt your environment or kill them.

I put a small flower bed in a corner of my lawn, and put edging bricks around the border. The last brick is a little too long. It's only about 2-1/2" thick and 3" tall where I need to cut it. Is there a way I can cut this brick without buying a power saw? (I do have a Dremel and a power drill, and various other hand tools.)
Hello......
All you need is a hammer & cold chisel. Draw a pencil line where you want the cut, then gently score the line with the hammer & chisel going all the way around several times. After a few minutes of this you'll see it start to crack along your line.

I bought a house from an older couple and they have a back yard jungle due to 2 years of them not maintaining it. I have buckthorn shrubs which I guess grow back even if you cut them down, a plethora of annual flowers and a handful of annual plants that span the entire outer edge of my lawn. On top of that I just found out that creeping jenny is taking over my entire yard, front and back. I want it ALL gone. It takes up way too much of my back yard, we just had a baby and have little to no time to maintain it ourselves and 2 years of overgrowth has turned it into a jungle and is very much an eye strain. What do I need to do to kill EVERYTHING and start over. I want dirt and would plan to lay down grass seed and only have grass with possible bushes later on when we figure out a landscape design that fits the style of our house. PLEASE HELP I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE. Thanks in advance to any and all answers/suggestions.

Landscaping Faux Pas #3: The Plastic Edge - The Home Outside ...
An all-too-familiar sight in home landscapes: plastic edging.
I’m not a big fan of plastic garden edging. For one thing, I find it hard to feel good about using anything plastic in a landscape filled with materials that come from nature. Here are some more reasons: 1) off-gassing isn’t good for you, the people who make the material, or the environment; 2) the shiny texture looks strange in the midst of natural materials; 3) it’s easy to dent, break, or destroy plastic edging with a mower or weed whacker; 4) since it’s so light, the material pulls out of the ground easily; 5) it’s not great for holding soil in or keeping grass roots from getting underneath it. You can feel a little better about edging made from recycled plastic, but if the purpose is to separate flowerbeds from lawn, then plastic edging may not be your best choice of material.
Creating the Beautiful Line When you keep the edges of your planting beds sharp and neat, it gives your whole landscape a lift by clearly separating the garden area from the lawn. You can use steel edging, bricks on edge, or cobblestones, but the least expensive solution is to cut a simple spaded edge. First, define the bed line using a flat-edged shovel or a spade, making a 3 in. vertical cut. Then make another cut at a 45-degree angle toward the planting bed, removing all extra soil. It’s an easy way to keep your borders looking trim—and much more natural than using plastic edging.
