There is an old saying 'If business is good it pays to advertise, if business is bad you've got to advertise'!!
You need to get a few quid together have loads of leaflets printed out 'Free quotes given' 'Unbeatable prices' all the usual guff then really mean it!
No use at all trying to advertise on here, in fact just about negative
You are not begging for work you are offering a service cheaper and better than all others in the area! Aren't you???
You will know from past experience that once you have completed a few jobs at a very fair price word of mouth will take over.
Just prepare for a few adverse comments from this forum on the subject of advertising, I just thought I would get this in before battle commences!! Good luck on your enterprise.

i have been in business for four months now landscape gardening and i am looking to obtain a grant of one thousand pounds. i need to buy a chainsaw and all of the safety equipment and get the license. i think this would increase my business significantly and would speed up expansion allowing me to invest in more equipment and possibly employing someone full time. does anyone know if i would be eligible to get a grant for these reasons?
In order to support your funding application, you'll need a solid business plan that demonstrates how the finance will increase your business and how you'll repay the loan.
Business Link is definitely a good place to start. They can help with setting out your business plan and they'll give you advice on who to approach for funds. Many funders expect you to put up at least half of what you require.
Good luck!
My fence has just fallen down in the wind. i live in the Cambridge area (uk). My garden in 14feet by 14 feet.
Company called Sky Fencing (Wickford Essex) did my fencing to an incredibly high standard, and it hasn't even moved after all these high winds.
Can't find phone number at the moment, but will re-post if I come across it.
This is for a friend who has inherited an old VW pick-up truck and has natural green fingers (as far as window boxes are concerned). She wants to try out being a gardener for a living, with the truck and a few basic tools, but she knows very little about the UK market.
What is involved in being a self-employed gardener? Are there any resources/ organisations she can take a look at? And what are the different types of gardener (eg, Landscape gardener surely does big-scale stuff, but doesn't plant flower beds, etc etc).
Is there a good book for beginners or a relevant UK class at night school that'd help?
Thanks a lot!
A commendable, if somewhat financially unrewarding career beckons. The best place to start is the website for the Royal Horticultural Society

Best of luck with it.
Hi
i will be moving over from the uk to oz in the early part of feb hoping to do some sort of landscape gardening was wondering if you need any specail work/tax permits to do this (if so can you get them befor u arrive?) and where is a good place to live when im out there?
Brisbane is great. plenty of work but if you are working outdoors it will take you a while to get climatised to the heat. If you have a work permit you will need to go to the tax department [Inland Revenue] For a number and register with them . Take a look around before you decide where to live. have a look at the GoldCoast & SunShine Coast .
The RHS faces job cuts despite being #39;The largest gardening ...
Despite this massive audience the RHS is faced with losing about ten percent of its workforce saying that it fears its 'predictable' revenue streams could disappear.
I am perplexed though. If the Internet is drawing in so many visitors, why has online editor, Geoff Hodge become a casualty of the RHS cuts?
Geoff wrote on his GardenForum blog on the 3rd July that he was being made redundant after eight and a half years - Geoff's final day was Friday 10th July 2009.
Landscape Gardening: Be a Nature Steward
The nature lovers often dream of rising with the dawn, surrounded by chirping birds and listening to the sound of flowing water. The dream can be chased. You can have your own landscape garden at the backyard of your house and feel close in the arms of Mother Nature.
Landscape gardens not only make your house look beautiful but also bring many positive energies at your door steps, as many experts says. Gardening is an art of meditation. It is a way of preserving greenery. For many elderly people, homemakers and nature admirers, landscape gardening is the best way of spending their time. Many people familiar with the basics of plants and fertilisers, makes this hobby a profession.
So as to develop a garden at your place, a little planning is required. First step would be deciding about the area you want to allot for gardening. If you are doing the job by yourself, you should be equipped and familiar with the garden tools.
Pre decide the plants and bulbs you want in your garden. For a blossoming garden, a correct choice of seasonal and perennial flowers as well as proper fertilizers has to be made. Moreover, one should acquire knowledge about the basic requirements of each plant like when and how to water, when to put medicines and fertilizers etc. so that the plants dwell well in the garden. Depending upon the sun and shade requirements of the plants, choose a proper place for them in your garden. If you are not that familiar with the subject, it is always advisable to appoint a professional landscape gardener who will give you the desired results while saving a lot of your time.
