2 of my light bulbs to my landscape lighting broke one of the two prongs off in their respective sockets. when I pulled the bulb out, only one was still connected. This is a continous strand of 5 lights that runs under neath the concrete slab. Can I disassemble the socket some how, or do I need to replace the entire set?
can't pull it out with pliers since it broker out in the socket. The opening is barlely 1 mm wide.
Is it possible that you could just take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and just pull the pin out from the socket?
Blake from Home Depot shares some of the LED light bulb offerings available at Home Depot.
First make sure that you're replacing the correct size bulb for that fixture. Its best to bring the actual bulb that burned out with you so that you can match it up exactly. Look inside the socket to see if there is anything obstructing the surface area of the threads. Check to see that the threads are not damaged also.
You may also want to try the following. First, shut off the power from the breaker panel so you don't accidentally hurt yourself. Try taking some petroleum jelly and smear it on the threads in the socket. Try installing the new bulb in the socket. I am going to be installing low voltage landscape lights. The fixture that was picked out is a Malibu 12 volt with an 11 watt bulb. The only problem is I'm not sure how much light the 11 watt bulb will put out. Is it okay to change it to a 18 watt bulb. I am not going to be using a Malibu transformer. I will be using a 900 watt multi tap transformer, so capacity is not an issue.
You can use the 18 watt. the 11 watt is pretty bright. Your transformer can handle it so go for it. I dont like the ones that are 4-6 watts because they look so cheap.
Good Luck.
These look like large christmas bulbs, but they are covers that go over you r landscaping walkway light, I think.
I've been checking websites & it looks like this is not yet a common item. Your best bet is to contact a speciality store like http://www.countrychristmasonline.com/ which has an in-house designer. They take phone orders (888) 314-0173 so you can call & ask if they have these Christmas landscaping light covers.
I have a strand of landscape lights. I only have 3 - 10 watt bulbs on this strand. So in theory it uses 30 watts? Or is it continually using the 80 watts the transformer is rated for? Am I wasting money and energy?
Transformers get hot so there must be a loss of energy in the form of heat.
Intermatic CL9 20-Watt Malibu Low Voltage Cast Metal Halogen ...
I bought these lights along with several others for a Christmas present for my parents. To say the least they work great and are well built.
The lights are made out of solid aluminum construction with a glass lens. Unlike the cheap plastic models these can take quite a bit of abuse with few problems except a few scratches. The light bulb is easy to change and lasts for months. All you do is rotate the hood a quarter turn and change the bulb. Make sure to use a tissue or something of that sort to put in the new light bulb. The oils from your hand and the high heat from the halogen bulbs will make it burn out much faster.
The connections are simple but effective. To metal barbs are forced into the low voltage wiring when you push the two ends of the connectors together. The connection is solid and can be undone easily to remove a light, move it down a few feet, or replacing the light with a new one when the time arises.

Lighting by Lux - Blog: Outdoor Light Bulb Considerations
It seems like such a small consideration, and it's an easy one to overlook; but just as with indoor lighting, you don't want to neglect light bulbs as a factor when planning your outdoor lighting scheme. The options for outdoor bulbs are pretty similar to those for indoors, but there are other considerations, such as climate conditions and the amount of voltage you're planning to use, that might affect your choices. As we've discussed here previously, the main types of light bulbs to consider are incandescent, Compact Florescent Light or CFL, Halogen, Xenon and LED. We've seen how incandescent bulbs fair against the other types as far as efficiency and performance, so for the purposes of this article, we'll go ahead and cross those off the list. Next to consider are CFL bulbs. Not only are they highly efficient, CFL bulbs are also the least expensive of the remaining options, and are a great choice for...
