I understand the wiring and voltage drop etc... I need help with the lighting design. I want to light up the front of my home (stone face)(wall wash & columns) and do some up lighting and down lighting on trees (moon lighting effect) (wooded lot -nice mature trees). I've seen some really nice lighting in my area and understand the concepts but need help in knowing what kind of fixtures and bulbs - also placement.
Any suggestion on a good company? Minnesota - Twin Cities
ELS (Executive Lighting Solutions) They helped me out. It's great you can send them photos and they can even draw right on them to let you know where to put the fixtures. I was impressed with their knowledge on how to light different areas. I had gone through a couple of different landscape contractor but they didn't seem to know much about the different techniques, they just wanted to sell me fixtures.
Good luck. (I think they are up in your neck of the woods)

Hello,
Does anyone know if NYC code requires conduit pipes for low voltage wiring around an outdoor garden area?
If so, does the conduit need to be running along the floor or can it be mounted along a concrete wall?
Thanks.
call the local building code inspection office you dont have to tell them who you are just ask the question or call the local electrical supply house where the pros shop they know they sell the parts then go to the local home depot and tell them your plan and ask for the electric sales guy he can help you choose the right stuff
i am a 13, going on 14 year old teen girl. I just recently painted my room with 2 walls being bright blue, and 2 walls a light sky blue. I want something cool that i could do to an ENTIRE wall that woul make it a focal point, not just hanging up a picture by monet, because that isn't cool at all.
>>here are some ideas i had<<
-getting a wall covering that is of a real-life landscape
-putting CD's on the wall
-hanging something from the ceiling that goes to the floor
-painting polka dots of the bright blue on the 2 walls that are a lighter blue
what do you think? i ♥ answers, so thanks in advance!!
You can also wrap foam core with fabric and hang them up like art- just use spray adhesive. Then you can hang them with Velcro strips. Lightweight, cheap, easy and fun!
I have a retaining wall in my backyard that uses 1 and 2 man size rock. When it was first put in the rock had a light blue-grey color, now after about 10 years the rocks have a dark charchol color to them. I want the lighter color back. The color change is not from dirt, but more of a fading. I don't think pressure washing will help, so I am wondering if anyone else has ever try to bring back the "new" look of their rockery. Did you use some kind of acid/minerals/chemicals?
The rocks are in a wall and are 1000-1500 pounds, they can't be moved or the wall will fall down, plus I am not that strong
pressure washing is the only way to do this, as the change in color can only be 1/8 of an inch to 1/4 of an inch saturated.
tis the only way to do it, never use chemicals
On one of my lamps in the living room I have a envision swirly energy saving 60w (daylight) bulb but when the light is off (by lightswtich) the light flickers very very lightly every 5 seconds is
my outlet bad or do all of this kind of light do this? I just noticed it today.

The switch for this light is on a wall..... and the switch has a light when the light is off so I can see the switch when it is dark. if that makes any sense pic below

so it isent a fire hazard is it?
The switch allows a little leakage current to go to the bulb. That current is enough to charge the filter capacitors in the electronics and let it attempt to start every few seconds.
If you want to stop the bulb from doing this, put a very small incandescent bulb (even 1 watt should do) on the same outlet as the lamp. That will create a lower resistance path for the switch's leakage current and not allow enough voltage to build up to trigger the CF bulb.
No, it's not a fire hazard. Not enough energy passes the switch to heat anything appreciably. However, if you have a Lights of America 3-way circle-tube lamp, it may explode all by itself (I have one which self-destructed with a bang AFTER it was turned off - the ballast, not the lamp tube).
