I desperately want to start my own home cleaning business that also provides light landscaping hauling services and carpet cleaning all in one. possibly errands and persona assisting. I s it a good idea. Do I need a license? How do I charge on house cleaning. How do I get brand new equipment for cheap. How do I get a loan for the stuff I need.
Slow down, sounds like you want the world!!! Granted, everything you mentioned sounds great for a business, but why don't you focus on one thing at a time. I don't own my own business, but if I wanted to start a house cleaning business, I would go work for a house cleaning service for about a year. Try to learn as much as you can, soak it up like a sponge. When I had a 'swat' team of housecleaners, they would charge by the hours. I had 4 women for 1 hour and be charged seventy dollars. I got rid of them because I was not satisifed with the caliber of work they performed. In addition, I didn't want them inflicting damage to my house, Keep these in mind because these are very important to the home owner.

I have been told by many that my work is very beautiful and that I should go into business for myself. I love to design yards and I feel I am very good at it. I have never had my own business before so I really don't even know where to start. Do I need a licence for this? When and If I did start do I pay for all the lawn design and then charge them for it afterwards? How much does ones usually charge for something like this? I know it cost me a pretty penny to do my own yard.LOL Plus all the time I had into it. I built my own ponds, bridges, flower pots, Large and small driftwood decor, painted what ever needed to be painted, had several decor water pumps running, Large stumps of wood for some of the water decor pumps to sit on. I halled in lava rocks, river rocks, large bolder rocks for design, many flower plants, wind chimes, tie kie torches, indoor outdoor rope lights that swirled through the ground plants, ground ornaments, ground lights, green viens through the back fencing, ect
Well, do you you want to design yards, or have a landscaping business?? A landscaping business needs quite a few pieces of machinery, to mow, take down old trees, trucks, etc.
Maybe you could call some landscaping companies, and see if they have a "design" person, that would meet with the homeowners, and go over what needs to be planted where, etc. I do not know if they have a person, or if they are just designers in general. I am not in landscaping, just offering some ideas.
Hope that helped, and good luck.
I would like to change the exterior of my home including some structure to update it, paint, and addition of entry gates, doors, stucco, etc...as well as lighting and landscaping to tie in the whole look. What kind of person does it all? A landscape architect, interior designer, exterior architect? I need someone to design and draw plans and do it all instead of getting a bunch of different contractors.
Hi Domma,
It may be a bit difficult to find a contractor who specailizes in each of these. I would recommend getting a few free quotes to help assist with your decision...you may end up with more than one contractor and a lower price! http://www.elyfe.com/remodeling.html
This is not a typical painting company where the customer picks the colors and the painter paints them. This is an interior decorating and design company who paints, remodels and decorates on a budget. We paint, change door knobs, light fixtures, stain discolored grout, stage various decorative items, landscaping etc. Basically any type of cosmetic upgrade you can think of to increase curb appeal and 'update' houses inside and out.
Most of our business has been from realtors with houses in need of a fresh look.
Thanks,
Luciane

I am an electrical contractor.I do anything from Trouble calls, remodels, room additions, dedicated circuits (inside and outside), pool electrical, landscape lighting (Line and low voltage),.......etc.......
I was looking at my commercial insurance policy (for my business). It states that I am only insured/covered for electrical work "within" buildings.Does this mean that I am not covered for anything not connected to a structure?
So I cannot do pool electrical? I cannot not run a dedicated circuit to a receptacle in the middle of the front/back yard? I cannot install landscape lights?
It means, that pool work isn't covered. And that yard work isn't covered. And the landscape lights aren't covered.
You'll have to talk to your insurance agent, see if you can buy back that exclusion.
