I've had a Home Staging company ask if we would set up lighting in the fronts of homes for customers who are selling their homes. I was wondering if the realty community had any opinions on the value of quality landscape lighting. I'm not talking the store bought cheap fixtures - either solar or plastic light kits, but metal low voltage lights for the sidewalks, lighting for pillars and brick/stone face, along with any trees etc.
I am not a realtor but have bought and sold multiple homes. It doesn't really add much to me. I think the money could be spend better else where.

I was given two Moonray transformers LV 1064, both 60 W transformers. On the back of one of them is states 6 - 10 W bulbs and on the back of the other it states 6 - 7 W bulbs.
First question, why different wattages of bulbs for each transformer when they are both LV1064 and 120 V 60 W transformers. stated for each transformer.
Second question, it's my understanding that like regular light fixutres, low voltage fixtures also have maximum wattage requirements. I have a total of 10 fixtures, how can I determine what wattage requirements these fixtures have?
I always assumed that as long as you don't exceed the maxium wattage of the transormer, you could use any combination of wattages.
A little off topic, but does anyone know what gauge wire come with moonray lighting kits as I would like to use the left over wire with my malibu lights that are 16 gauge.
Far too many questions, I know, but thanks to any and all for your help.
I'm not familiar with Moonray. I have used Malibu.
The difference may be when they were made. You might want to contact the company to see what the differences are.
You are correct - as long as your total wattage does not exceed the transformer's maximum you should be O.K. (don't worry about line loss in the wire).
You shouldn't have any problem using the 16 gage wire on this system.

I currently have an advanced point and shoot fujifilm s700. And am thinking of upgrading to a canon rebel xt but don't know how well the range of the kit lens it brings will be or perform for my needs. Can someone shed some light on a lens or lenses for my needs?
Well, here's the deal- no single lens is going to great at everything you listed, all together.
Think about it this way: the focal length of the lens you'll need for good sports and wildlife photos is at least about 300mm, that is, a telephoto lens. The focal length that'll produce good landscapes is of a very wide angle, maybe 15mm (especially on a Rebel). For portraits and group photos, you're looking at something in the middle, say 50mm. It's really hard to find a lens of good quality that covers that kind of range, not to mention it'd be very expensive and quite unwieldy.
That's just taking the focal length into consideration, and it's only one of many things that'll affect a lens's ability to take good shots of a particular subject.
That said, if you're just getting into using an SLR, the kit lens will do just fine. First thing is first, learn how to get the most out of your camera, and the lens it comes with, and once you've gotten a little experience, you'll know what your next lens should be. In the mean time, the kit lens, or any medium range (say 20 - 70 mm) zoom lens will do
If you're interested, I'd recommend checking out the following forum: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/. It's a community of Canon users of all types and abilities, it's a great resource, and there's lots of folks there that'll be happy to help you out.

- shooting concert pictures (sitting far from the stage)
- indoor pictures with family
- landscape pictures (ex. beach/sunset) and
- nighttime pictures (ex.city lights/buildings)??
Remember, i'm on a budget here so the least lenses i can buy to fit all of my criteria s would be the best. I'm very new to this slr system so if someone can also tell me what kind of pics i can take with the lens kit (18-55mm), it would be appreciated. Thanks soo much !!!
You can shoot anything with the kit lens, except you're limited on zoom range. I sold mine and got the 18-200mm VR, instead of keeping it and getting the 55-200. Why have to stop and change lenses? It's worth the $635 I paid for it.

The only things that put me off is the Tokina wide-angle converter (nearly valueless), and the tacky aluminum case with key that screams out "EXPENSIVE" to thieves at work. But then again, the price your getting it at is hard to beat, and if you trust the source, I say go for it.

Software Loo » What You Don#39;t Know About Landscape Lighting Kits
The pleasure of a beautifully landscaped garden can’t be overstated. Extending the relaxation and enjoyment into the night, though, requires the installation of landscape lighting. In the not so distant past, this was both a labor intensive and prohibitively expensive objective. Fortunately for those of us who don’t have Kennedy or Rockefeller in our names, low-cost, easy-to-install landscape lighting kits have come to the rescue. But before you begin shopping for them online, take the time to know what their limitations are. After all, there’s no such thing as a free lunch and you’re sure to be disappointed if you don’t educate yourself first.
Landscape lighting kit manufacturers such as Malibu have presented us with what, on the surface, seems like a great idea. But the materials used to keep costs down introduce some limitations compared to their metal counterparts. It is ignorance of those limitations that often leads ambitious consumers to rush a purchase that doesn’t live up to their expectations once installed so that’s our objective here today, to cover the good, the bad and the ugly and manage your expectations accordingly. I do ask that you read to the end, though, as there are definitely good reasons to opt for kits.
