I'm using a Canon SLR 10D. I have a buddy who has a lighting landscaping company and he wanted to shoot some stuff for his website. I have an image stablizer on it and I set it to ISO 800 around 1 sec f4 and shooting with no flash. If I set it higher than that it becomes more blurry because some parts are dark and some are lit from the lights. Some of these places that I'm shooting isn't going to be great for a tripod. Would a IS still work in this case or try to go with the tripod?
You can pick early dusk where it will look and photograph dark, lights will be on and you will have enough ambient light to have a descent shutter speed. Also use a mono pod if you can not set up a full tripod.

I would like to buy landscaping lights that put out some good lighting. I prefer the solar but I have seen them in action and they have very poor lighting. Does anyone know of a good quality landscaping lighting? Thank you for your answers.
To my way of thinking, low voltage and solar lighting should be called luminous markers, not lights. I've given mine away in favor of 115V exterior PAR floods and spots connected to dimmers, photocells and GFIs. More light and more control. I've used a few CFLs, but make sure you get those that can be dimmed. RScott
I'm no pro but I'd like to see a few pictures on small landscaping projects that incorporate low voltage lighting. Any websites or books?

These look like large christmas bulbs, but they are covers that go over you r landscaping walkway light, I think.
I've been checking websites & it looks like this is not yet a common item. Your best bet is to contact a speciality store like http://www.countrychristmasonline.com/ which has an in-house designer. They take phone orders (888) 314-0173 so you can call & ask if they have these Christmas landscaping light covers.
I understand the wiring and voltage drop etc... I need help with the lighting design. I want to light up the front of my home (stone face)(wall wash & columns) and do some up lighting and down lighting on trees (moon lighting effect) (wooded lot -nice mature trees). I've seen some really nice lighting in my area and understand the concepts but need help in knowing what kind of fixtures and bulbs - also placement.
Any suggestion on a good company? Minnesota - Twin Cities
ELS (Executive Lighting Solutions) They helped me out. It's great you can send them photos and they can even draw right on them to let you know where to put the fixtures. I was impressed with their knowledge on how to light different areas. I had gone through a couple of different landscape contractor but they didn't seem to know much about the different techniques, they just wanted to sell me fixtures.
Good luck. (I think they are up in your neck of the woods)

Landscape Lighting – Part 1 | Purple Cow Landscaping - Outdoor ...
I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. Lighting is sexy! There is just no way around it. Of all the things that I do in the field of landscaping, and there is a lot, none really compares to lighting up a property at night. In fact, wouldn’t you rather look at photo’ after photo’ of sexy landscapes illuminated for nighttime use instead of reading this article? Sure you would. If I describe one of Purple Cow Landscaping’s lighting installations, it’s blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, etc…… But, take a look at one of the jobs we’ve done and it’s a whole different thing. When you first glance at the photo’, it’s just that, a photo’. Give it a couple minutes though. Let your imagination kick in. Pretty soon you’ll begin to feel the warm southern breeze, next is the sound of ice tinkling in your glass as you swirl it around to mix the libations within. Touch the cold glass to your neck to curb the heat. Soft music is lazily finding its way to you from your outdoor garden speakers through your meticulously manicured landscape. Can you picture it? Can you feel it? If you are still wondering what I am talking about, then you haven’t been properly introduced to good landscape lighting.
