If you are looking to place a large investment in your landscape you may think of purchasing a 50-60 dollar progam CD. These will generally tell you what, where, and whens. In addition they will also alert you to the maintenance needs and costs.
Another rather cheap and invaluable resource is your local Library or Bookstore. Try to get Wyman's Ency. Of (Gard-Landscape - it changes in countries). This book will walk you through every single plant and maintenance of them.

I am looking to design my own backyard landscaping and am looking for software. Either free or worth the price. I want something that I can enter a pic or create a sketch of my own home and landscape around it. Thank you.
Check out Google earth, and the free version of Sketchup they provide. You can get an ariel photo of your place, and then use sketchup to do your design, make sure you check out sketchups design warehouse online, free plants, trees all kinds of stuff

If you really want Punch software then go for the Punch Master Landscape Pro Version 10, it has 2000 plants. You may want to check out the review sites.

Sundays are family day at our house, last Sunday however I was working on an urgent design project for a client that needed house plans delivered first thing on Monday morning so I there I was working from my home office when the youngest of my four nieces looking at the computer screen I was working on asked me if I was playing a Dolls House Game ?
Kids are just amazing aren’t they ? They see the fun times and games in just about everything, I laughed and tried to explain that the house I was doing plans for was not for dolls but for full sized people to live in, but with the roof removed it did look like a Dolls House.
Well it looks like a Dolls House Game to me she said and it prompts the question has anyone ever used our House Plans Software for just playing games ? Building their own Barbie Mansion.

I was working from my home office early last week when the youngest of my four nieces lean’t over my shoulder and looking at the computer screen asked me what I was doing. I showed her the house plans that I was working on and she promptly replied “are you building a dolls house ?”
I laughed and explained that the house plans I was working on where for a house for real sized people not for dolls.
“But could you make it for a dolls house right ?” she asked and it made me wonder if anyone had ever actually used our House Plan Software to create plans to build a dolls house.
I mean when you stop and think about it a Dolls House it is the perfect “starter project” when it comes to learning our Floor Plan Software for the first time – the greatest challenge that we face as software developers is that many if not most of our customers, the ones that aren’t Architects or Professional Designers face is the not insignificant challenge of trying to learn to use what is relatively complex software ( it doesn’t matter how hard we try to make the learning process easy it does can a few hours to learn ) straight out of the box so to speak and into a real world project like Home Design, and even with as much effort that developers place on making this type of House Design Software as easy as possible that’s no small task, usually one learns a new skill and “works up” to a full on project.
