japanese style art question.?
Landscapes /trestintas

i'm interested in a certain type of japanese art style.
the artwork is usually a landscape. the paintings are often very simple looking without a lot of detail. most i have seen have a white or off-white background and the landscape colors are hues of grey, soft blues and often have just a touch of other colors. i believe that the paintings are water colors.
someone please help as my wife and i are looking to buy this style of art for our decor and we cannot find anywhere that carries this type of artwork.
thank you.
what is the art style name?

Depends on where you live. I don't know any places like this near me, and I live in Seattle. You might have to buy online. Try this website: http://www.fujiarts.com/cgi-bin/main.pl< br />

Any shops specializing Asian ART supplies near Hornsby Sydney NSW?
Arashiyama near Kyoto

Apart from Will's Quills in Chatswood
( which grrr aaargh is closed on Mondays!)
does anyone know of shops that supply Asian type materials for ART on Sydney's North Shore? I mean brushes paper ink especially paper for creating East Asian (Chinese Japanese Korean etc) style landscapes and calligraphy.

It must be near the train line or a bus route?

Its ridiculous that in a city as large as Sydney there are so few shops that supply Asian paper brushes and ink.

Please note that I mean real painting paper - washi - not those fancy "rice" wrapping papers !

Our nearest art supply store does have ink but only in really small bottles.

I have an inkstone but like to have made up ink ready for when I'm doing large landscapes or semi abstracts!

Even in Chinatwon and Haymarket there seem to be no art stores that specialize in this!

I live near Hornsby and want to find a shop closer to home then Chatswood.
Rebirth you get one point but thats all since artsearch brought up will's quills which I already know about!

Help finding a tattoo artist!?
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

ok, so I'm looking for a tattoo artist on either the east coast (preferably in the Carolinas, Virginia or Maryland), or in the rockies (New Mexico or Colorado) who specializes in japanese style landscapes (sumi-e). I want to get a half sleeve done up of a snowy mountain range with a little guy walking through a blizzard about to climb one of the mountains. I'd like someone who is good at coverups since I'm gonna have to get a small tribal shoulder tat either covered or expanded to make this sleeve work. I got a decent chunk of cash to put towards this, and I'd like to get it done up in April. Anyone got any leads?

Help! How to prevent snakes from getting in from my back garden?
Terrific Koi Pond

I live near the hills, in the valley. My neighbors' dogs has already died from snake bites (they suspect its a Cobra!) and she said that she saw the snake slithered to the direction of our property! I'm very afraid for the safety of my dogs cos my house, we've already built walls at the side around the property but at the back garden because of uneven land, the neighbor's land is higher and his property is unkept with tall grasses and everything. So I'm afraid the snake(s) can enter through the back cos even with the wall, our property is lower. Our back garden is mostly tiled and we did landscaping Japanese style with a Koi Pond and we do have some herbs planted at the back. No tall grass and all that. Will sulphur powder work? Please any suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!! Have a nice day!

snakes won't like tiled and low shrubbery. They like hiding. But you can get dogs who kill snakes and you can even sometimes get pet mongooses with a license and they specialise in killing cobras.

Fence posts for privacy screen, concrete feet and salvaged wood - advice..?
Auckland Harbour sunset. NZ landscapers, www.nzlandscapes.com landscape design photos.

hi

I have a dozen odd 8ft+ landscape ties that I would like to use as posts for a (lightweight) privacy screen. The intended screen is Japanese style - made of bamboo/rush so is indeed lightweight. it will allow wind to pass thru - so won't act as a 'sail' there's a wall on the ohter side too - so its purpose is more asthetic than anything

In the interest of maximizing height - I'd prefer to NOT sink the posts in dirt - rather to pour concrete feet that are part in dirt part above ground.. I'd probably pound a couple of rebar spikes into the post base to enhance anchor in concrete..

frost heave is not a factor.

so - doable?? how deep should I go with my concrete??

(ps. posts are landscape ties - so won't accomodate the typical steel spike prefab EZpost - which are tailored to a 4x4..)

thanks in advance!

Not knowing your specific region, I would offer the following.

Why not use large pots for footings, leaving some open space in the top 1 foot or so. After centering posts, and allowing for concrete to dry, you can add some potting mix and put in some plants to distract from the bottom of the posts. This also makes it portable. I hope this helps.

  • Mountain-Inspired Fragrances - #39;A Scent by Issey Miyake#39; Evokes ...

Issey Miyake will launch a perfume inspired by the smell of the mountains in Japan. The aptly named ‘A Scent by Issey Miyake’ is a tribute to the poetry of minimalism and features notes of jasmine, musk, galbanum, lemon verbena, hyacinth, cedar wood, and crystal moss. The perfume was created by perfumer Daphne Bugey, who has created scents for DSquared, Miss Sixty and Kenzo.

‘A Scent by Issey Miyake’ will feature a bottle by celebrated Paris-based Israeli designer Arik Levy. The clear bottle’s features include an extruded profile with rough edges. These extrusions are how Levy created a bridge between his design ideas and Miyake’s. Levy used the idea of raw, industrial art as a reference point when creating the bottle that comes in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. For an added twist, the size range of the bottle is extended horizontally, as opposed to the regular vertical extension.

‘A Scent by Issey Miyake’ will be available in September.

The Wall Enclosing the Japanese Garden in the Brooklyn Botanic ...

BBG's Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden was the first Japanese garden to be created in an American public garden. It was constructed in 1914 and 1915 at a cost of $13,000, a gift of early BBG benefactor and trustee Alfred T. White, and it first opened to the public in June 1915. It is considered to be the masterpiece of its creator, Japanese landscape designer Takeo Shiota (1881-1943). Shiota was born in a small Japanese village about 40 miles (64 km) from Tokyo, and in his youth spent years traversing Japan on foot to explore its natural landscape. He emigrated to the United States in 1907. The garden is a blend of the ancient hill-and-pond style and the more modern stroll-garden style, in which various landscape features are gradually revealed along winding paths. Its 3 acres (1.2 ha) contain hills, a waterfall, a pond, and an island, all artificially constructed. Carefully placed rocks also play leading roles. Among the architectural elements of the garden are wooden bridges, stone lanterns,...
