There is a stanbdard cleaner for brass used by military guys, because they are required to keep all their brass spit-polish/mirror clean. Used to be called "Brasso", but I'm not sure if this specific brand is still available. Once you get the brass clean, consider some kind of anti-corrosion treatment because brass generally gets corroded very quickly.

We are re-doing the fixtures on the outside of our house-mailbox, light and doorbell. We have a white vinyl sided ranch with black shutters currently we have black mailbox and black light. Do you think brass would look cheap or would it give the front of our house a little sparkle? I'm going to replace the current ones no matter what but I just don't know what I think about brass. Please help!
