I am looking for something called "Fairy Lights" for outdoor use. Technically, they are outdoor christmas lights, but they are made for year round use. I have seen these used in commercial areas and shopping centers to light their trees year round.
I have tried searching different Christmas websites, but all I can find is lights with white or green cords, and I need something with Brown cords.
Does anyone know where to find these?
go to any garden/patio center

I'm preparing a work site and need to hook up five or six 1000 watt work lights to properly light the area at night. I have an outdoor outlet onsite, but that's five or six thousand watts of juice, which will surely blow a fuse or tip a breaker. Is there any way I can run the lights off the commercial power without doing that? Is there a capacitor or something I could buy?
You have the right idea. If you try and run 6KW off of one outlet then you are tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse.
You will have to get a generator to power the lights, either that or at least 3 more lines out there from the commercial source.
some one already gave you the formula to find the current.
I = W/V eg. ( 50A = 6KW / 120V )

I have a Samsung LNT4042HX/XAA tv and am having issues with overexposure of bright / white scenes, such as commercials and outdoor pics. If you have a white background and light clothes or writing, they seem to blend together. I have tried changing all the settings, using factory presets, etc. I don't have the $$ for professional services. Any suggestions?
I may have to purchase the calibration CD, along with a 30+ft USB cable to fix it (ugh...$$). I've had the contrast low, med and high, tried all 3 picture modes, and even had the backlight on 1. Fooled with color, gains, everything. I am just missing some obvious setting somewhere, I think. thx, tho!
You may have contrast too high.
Check your DVDs for the THX Optimizer logo (Disney movies, Star wars, etc.) or buy for $20 a DVD calibration disc (the Monster/ISF is very easy to use).
If your TV is LCD, try to lower the backlight brightness and switch the picture mode from Vivid to standard. Vivid is usually way too bright.

Earlier in this conversation , Leni referred to the class issues related to urban lighting, asking: “Is there a single citizen living in a blighted neighborhood who would prefer less light? Is there a cop or first responder in densely packed modern city who would call for reduced light levels in deference to the darkened night sky?” But Susan, before this conversation began, you sent me statistics suggesting that higher lighting levels do not reduce urban crime. Do you think Leni is mistaken about blighted neighborhoods and first responders? We don’t need “extra” light to see well: there are recommended practices issued by the IES that specify the amount of light needed for all applications. There is no reason to exceed those levels. Besides, we really need science behind these recommendations. For example, Chicago officials increased the amount of light in the city’s alleys only to see the crime rate rise. When this was pointed out to the neighborhoods, they still wanted the...
Gardening, Commercial Outdoor Lighting
Luminous billboards, shop signs and twinkling lights create a fairy tale ambience, luring bargain hunters and casual observers to malls, eating places, gaming centers and commercial establishments. Las Vegas would be a desert town if it did not have glitzy, leering neons in all shapes and designs shining in the night sky. Or imagine a scenario where there is a single commercial outdoor light for a cluster of salons and stores. Outdoor lighting evolved over the years and in process lost its bearing. The abundance of electricity gave place to haphazard placement and usage leading to energy wastage and pollution. It is a health hazard as too much exposure causes eye problems and momentary blindness leading to automobile accidents. Poorly lighted or skewed fixtures have similar effect as in glares or rotating beams inconveniencing neighbors and residents. Whatever the after effects of too much or too little, commercial outdoor lighting enhances the location and is best possible advertisement for product and premises. Excessive use multiplies the electricity bill of the establishment. The answer to this is an environmentally efficient commercial outdoor lighting fixture powered by solar energy. This is economical and environment friendly as only fixtures responsive to this lighting system are used. Another way to save on electricity bills is usage solar energy or new LED or light-emitting-diode technology to create brighter lights. LED technology is efficient and can be used effectively in commercial areas. With urban areas expanding and rebuilding, commercial outdoor lighting is much in demand. Streets, schools, colleges, shopping and financial establishments, cultural and sports centers all require appropriate lighting arrangements. One need not invest in old designs but select contemporary and modern designs that are durable and water-resistant. Other contemporary designs in commercial outdoor lighting include bronze fixtures mounted on matching fiberglass poles ideal for parking lots or recreational areas. Another popular design is cobra head fixture perfect for parking lots, highways or city streets.
