installing outdoor lighting?

I want to install low voltage lighting outside for my walkway however it says the transformer must be hooked up outside to a gfi plug.I dont have any plugs outside but I do have one in my garage right by the door. Can I just install the transformer outside and run the plug( if it has a plug) to the inside plug?

GFI is really just a separate circuit breaker from the house. Basically it for safety. Like in a bathroom, it give a more sensitive response to problems. You can connect to your Garage, but, what I would do is install a GFI in place of the regular plug. It really not matter, but, meet most city codes. All the light transformer is doing, is converting 120 AC house current into 12 volts DC or whatever the lights use. But, most people figure to be on the safe side it best to have a separate breaker on that one circuit, this way it help insure when you walk on the lawn............it not fry your balls. If, you think like I do, you want to keep those. That the family jewels that you want to hand down to your son. :-p

installing outdoor lights with switch?

Ive installed 8 outdoor 120 volt flood lights to illuminate trees that I have. they are 120 watt max per light. I have it connected a dedicated 15amp breaker. But it seems when I try to switch the lights on they dont go on but when I plug lights in to the plug it works. First should each light be grounded since its on the ground and Second how should the wires be connected? Thanks, dont want to burn the house down.

Maybe this will help.

Installing outdoor light fixture to a pole. Has a light sensitive switch red white & black wires need help?

I know white to white & black to black & ground but do not know how to wire up the red. I just capped it & the light is now on all the time. I assume the red goes with white or black but wanted to be sure which one. Thanks.

There should be a black, white, and red wire coming from the sensor. The white wire gets connected to the white wire of the fixture and the white wire of the wall box. The black wire gets connected to the black wire of the wall box. The red wire gets connected to the black wire of the fixture.

need to find out how to wire a transformer and outdoor lighting?step by step?

i installed outdoor lighting and im not sure if my wiring is right because i get a huge voltage drop. someone keeps telling me to loop the wiring and im not too sure what they are talking about. if someone can h thank you

Looping the wiring means connect both ends of the wiring together....ex: you have a 20ft wire....you connect one end to the transformer and tape up the other end,or bury it etc. so instead of tape it or burying it run the end back to the transformer so you have a "loop" or closed circuit. However if the lights keep cycling on and off it means that the transformer is overloaded. a quick fix is basically just add 1 or 2 more lights to lower the voltage going back into the transformer.

Installing new outdoor light, but there's 2 black and 2 white wires coming from the house. Which one to I use?

that means that there is another light that is switched from the same switch. both black and both white should be hooked back up. how was it connected before hook it up the same way

Green Living Tips | Home Owner#39;s Associations | HOAs | Beverly ...

As energy costs rise and resources become scarcer, more homeowner associations are finding ways to reduce energy consumption and “go green.” With state legislation placing limits on the authority of HOAs to prohibit or regulate certain energy generation devices and energy efficient measures, the issue has come to the forefront of the attention of both HOAs and owners. Given all of this, what are some ways homeowner associations can be proactive in creating or encouraging green practices?

Recycling. If your HOA has centralized trash collection, contract with your trash removal contractor to also provide for recycling. If your community has curbside pickup, recycling may be included in the cost of that pickup. Encourage all residents to recycle.

Reduce Water Consumption. Many HOAs have overly ample open space, much of which may be landscaped with lush grass. While grass is attractive, there are many turf and xeriscaping alternatives that require less, if any, water. Consider replacing high-water consuming plants with plants that require less water. Allow owners to install xeriscaping, subject to any approval requirements for any landscaping project.
