The box says it is an outdoor ceiling light, but I want to put it on the exterior wall instead of the ceiling; it is 17" x 17" x 6" deep, basically a square that mounts flush. By looking at it, I can't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to mount it like one would a sconce light, just don't know if there is some reason why I shouldn't. Thanks much for any help!

If it mounts flush to the ceiling is should work fine on the wall..Good Luck..

I have no front light in front of my house. I have a mud room at my front door with no access to the small attic area above it. there is a ceiling light in the mudroom though. i want to tap into that and somehow go through the vinyl siding and install a light fixture. how would I do that with the vinyl siding ?

First, I would have ask, how you plan to tap the ceiling light? Is there power there or is it just a switch leg?
As for installing a light in vinyl siding, they make a piece called a "J-Block" should be available at any home store the carries siding, you should also install a junction box for the wires, and for the fixture to mount to, this reqired by code.
If there is not permanant power in the ceiling fixture the outside light will have to be operated by the same switch as the ceiling light, if there is power, you can install a switch below in outside light, if there is wall space below. Good luck, hope this helps you.

I have found that the light kit standards are basically the same, I found one for a old fan, the kit usually says what all fans it will fit, i got mine a Home Depot. good luck

Both stopped working at the same time, they share a switch box.
We checked the circuit breakers, reset all of them,still no luck, everything else appears to be working fine.
Last Monday we had a fan/light installed in a different room, we also had a remote control added to it. Now that light turns itself on as does the fan although at different times. I assumed they were on a different circuit than the living room / porch light since they are in different rooms but now I wonder....Halloween is over this stuff shouldn't be happening!

Since it isn't the circuit breaker you might have an open connection in the utility box that houses the switch. It could also be a GFCI that is tripped somewhere close by. So first check all the GFCI outlets inside and outside the house, then you will have to check the switch wiring to see if a wire nut has come off or the wire has come loose on the switches. If you find someone has wired the switches with a push in connection, remove the connection and use the screws on the side of the switches instead.

I have 27" room (from the point on the ceiling where I will hang the light to the top of the doorway.) Pendant light sizes range from 10" up to over 20". I dont want it to look too small or too big for the doorway. Most of the ones I like are around 15". Will that look too big?

I think it's a preference thing. Try this, make a card board model approx the size you like and hang it from the ceiling with string. That way you can get an idea of the dimensions and whether it will look right. Cheaper than buying a fixture and then not liking it.
