I can't figure out how to just turn on my floodlights. The lights can be turned on, or turned on to work with the motion detector. I was told that there is a pattern of switching it on and off you have to do to turn it on, but I can't figure it out. When I do manage to turn the lights on it's just by like after flipping the switch up and down like a crazy man.
Does anyone know?
Some motion detectors were set so if you turn the light switch off and then back on within so many seconds it would stay on until you turned it back off and then on and it would then work automatically again. I think the waving the arm thing wouldn't work well as you might have to run outside several feet away to wave your arm in the detector path or have help. Ours is done by the switch only and you don't need to go outside and wave at all LOL.

Sounds like they're shorting out with dampness.
We live close to a major road that gets quite a bit of foot traffic. Now we keep our property dark at night and have a motion detecting flood light. We've been told that the exterior should be illuminated. My concern is that if the house is lit up at night...things like patio furnature, bikes and skate boards will be visible...and therefore more of a target.
Thanks in advance for your help...Rob
Most thieves do not like to be in the "spotlight". If one is going to rob you, they will do it no matter what you have. You may want to light the yard area with an all night light and use the motion detector type nearer the house. This would deter someone from walking across the property to see what you have to offer.
Ive installed 8 outdoor 120 volt flood lights to illuminate trees that I have. they are 120 watt max per light. I have it connected a dedicated 15amp breaker. But it seems when I try to switch the lights on they dont go on but when I plug lights in to the plug it works. First should each light be grounded since its on the ground and Second how should the wires be connected? Thanks, dont want to burn the house down.
Maybe this will help.

I think Edison would be impressed
According to Peterson, outdoor lighting design is one of the fastest growing trends in home decorating, creating more beautiful neighborhoods and safer, more secure homes. “Ten years ago, virtually no one was doing outdoor lighting in a pleasing, effective manner,” Peterson said. “Today, the practice of outdoor lighting has become much more sophisticated and effective, resulting in systems that are practical and add to the beauty of a home as seen at night.”
Towards the end of the article, Schultz poses the question, “What would Edison think of advancements in the industry?” I say he would be impressed. And not only for the reasons outlined by Schultz and Peterson but also for continuing lighting advancements such as LED ( light-emitting diode ).
