I can't figure out how to just turn on my floodlights. The lights can be turned on, or turned on to work with the motion detector. I was told that there is a pattern of switching it on and off you have to do to turn it on, but I can't figure it out. When I do manage to turn the lights on it's just by like after flipping the switch up and down like a crazy man.
Does anyone know?
Some motion detectors were set so if you turn the light switch off and then back on within so many seconds it would stay on until you turned it back off and then on and it would then work automatically again. I think the waving the arm thing wouldn't work well as you might have to run outside several feet away to wave your arm in the detector path or have help. Ours is done by the switch only and you don't need to go outside and wave at all LOL.
yes I ment burn out evey winter....sry for the type o
Sounds like they're shorting out with dampness.
Ive installed 8 outdoor 120 volt flood lights to illuminate trees that I have. they are 120 watt max per light. I have it connected a dedicated 15amp breaker. But it seems when I try to switch the lights on they dont go on but when I plug lights in to the plug it works. First should each light be grounded since its on the ground and Second how should the wires be connected? Thanks, dont want to burn the house down.
Maybe this will help.

My house was pre-wired by the builder for two floodlights on one switch. I have a box with two sets of wires and one ground on the eaves. I am trying to install a floodlight and everything I have looked at is only wired for one electrical connection. I installed the light but it does not work, I am assuming because the second set of wires are an open circuit. I capped both individually, however I am tryin to figure out a solution to this. Is there a way fora light wired this way to work with this set up?
Call the builder and ask him what he or his electrical contractor did. And why they did not connect the light fixture. My guess is that one set of wires is the feed and the other set is the switch leg. Email me if you want to try to work this out. You will need a voltage detector or volt meter.
Transform a Home’s Patio with Outdoor Flood Lights
There are many reasons that you might want to install an outdoor flood light system. One of them might be for safety, having bright lights on at your home could help discourage burglars from breaking into your home as you minimize places for potential break-ins to happen.
It’s also a great way to highlight certain aspects of your home, such as an interesting design feature in your garden. Having outdoor flood lights is also the perfect way to illuminate an outdoor party. There are different styles that will suit different tastes and aesthetics.
Outdoor Flood Lights Also Reduce Energy Consumption
With the current economy, people are trying to cut down on electricity usage as a means of saving money. The great thing about light systems now on the market is that you get the beautiful illumination without paying a fortune. With this, you can choose the right watt light bulb to create the light you want but without increasing energy use.

Outdoor LED lights An energy efficient way to light up a garden, deck, or walkway
Outdoor LED lights can help you save energy by providing exterior lighting that consumes very little energy. But before you go stocking up on solar-powered LED landscape lights or LED security lights, you should first think about the product life cycle energy costs of what you are buying, and how much you really need the outdoor lighting.
You might think it's environmentally friendly to light up your back yard with outdoor LED lights. But don't forget that it's more environmentally friendly to not light up the back yard at all. Energy is used to manufacture outdoor LED lights, ship them to the store or warehouse, get them to your home, and ultimately to dispose of them when they stop working. And if you go for cheap over quality, the disposing will happen sooner rather than later.
If you're going to light up your back yard so that it looks pretty for the ten seconds each evening that you glance out at it, you might want to do a cost-benefit analysis. And as for security lighting, did you know that having security lights on all the time not only causes light pollution (for those of us inclined to gaze at the stars) but can actually make it easier for someone to break into your home?
