my car keeps getting broke into. i need to put some sort of light outside so it's not dark near where i park my car, which is apprx. 20 feet from the house(entrance). any ideas?
i need something with strong light. i have a security camera that doesn't really work at night. so if i have bright light it will probably work. i like the spot light idea, and the motion sensor too..any ideas where i can get them?
get a spot light that is triggered by movement! that will scar them away or park your car in a more safer spot!!! or if you have a big dog put it near the car! then they will not touch the car!
usually the brands that make outdoor lighting will have tips on their websites. also, home decorating magazines will have tips online on their websites.
I have a great patio/deck and no light gets to it at night. There is no access to an outlet. My apartment is rental so I can't screw anything into the building. Plus- the outside of the building is brick. I was looking for battery operate lighting- but not string lights. I was also looking for something a little more "stylish" than the tap lights.

I love that last one, very elegant but all of those options are more mood lighting than actual useful lighting. Hope it helps anyway.
As a designer, I recommend moonlight orbs. They've just recently come to the states. They can float in a pool or pond or be mounted a flat surface (via full orbs or half orbs), and can be used indoors or out. The polyethylene globes can withstand temperatures from -40 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. They're available in sizes from 13 to 30 inches in diameter, and they can be powered with rechargeable batteries or hardwired into an outlet. The globes also come with interchangeable color filters, so you can have the authentic look of moonlight, but you can also have fun with different colors of lights. Outdoor Lighting Ideas
Outdoor lighting should consist of primary lights that illuminate the space and secondary lights that set the mood. To incorporate both of these in your patio or deck, it’s best to determine the outdoor lighting before you build.
Some primary lights include wall-mounted sconces on the sides of doorways, pole-mounted fixtures along the path to the garden, floodlights for late night hot tub or pool parties and motion detectors for security purposes.
Secondary lights include lanterns strung near the patio furniture, strings of small lights for trees and shrubs and soft glowing landscape lights.
This tall Moroccan-style candle lantern has a unique look, which would provide a subtle glow around the outdoor dining area. The dimensions are 6 1/4” x 5 3/8” x 19” high. White Barn Gifts sells other Moroccan-style lanterns in blue, yellow and amber glass. Lanterns like this call for a relaxing dinner with friends or a romantic night with that special someone.
...Solar Outdoor Lighting
The efficiency of the solar panels including the reduction in their size coupled with the quality of the batteries they charge and the length of time they last has made the purchase of solar lights very economical.
The Old Way
Once upon a time if you wanted outdoor lights, you had to assemble the lights, dig ditches, run wires, find and outlet for the transformer(these were low voltage systems using 12 volts), connect the light connections to the main cable, cover the ditches and set back to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Assembling the lights could be a major effort in some of the less expensive kits. The tolerances allowed are great and the manufacturers take advantage of this. Then you need to have the strength of Hercules to attach the wiring system Solar Outdoor lighting has made improvements by leaps and bounds over the last decade. Digging the ditch can be an affair if you have a tight soil. If there was a sidewalk or driveway involved, then the work had just begun, trying to get your main cable across these obstacles. They worked great until the bulbs started getting older, then they would fade a little, burn out or their connection would corrode and need occasional cleaning and reinserting. Looking for a bad connection can and does require a lot of time and effort on the do-it yourself.
